I just kept playing... I think those heart means how close you are to your sister which you'll gain as you keep playing... And as for the salmon, "throw a bomb in the river" is what the devs said...
I honestly having a hard time with bows, wand(?), and bombs, i can't aim it well... It's probably Skill Issue or Game Issue, it just shoot and throw randomly...
