Currently, the maximum number of hearts is 7. Red hearts can turn to purple, for a total sum of them: 14.

About milk. You can give milk to Imouto as a drink after purchasing milk for the first time, or more precisely, after talking to Imouto about [how strange it is that there's a milk vending machine "outside"].
After returning home (5:00 PM+ or through the portal door), there can only be 1 [Evening Conversation] per game day, and, for example, If you return home with a game console, an event will occur that will cancel all the evening's events and bring the morning.

After activating the "drinks," there's a conversation where you give out the "medicine" after defeating a boss. You'll receive the medicine if you return home with a "philosopher's stone shard" through the "door" you open on the area where the boss fight took place (if you eat the shard before the medicine is formed, you'll have to wait for a new boss).

Regarding the number of purple hearts, the game has events that check the number of pink and purple hearts, or even their total. And the "highest" number in events, 99+ purple hearts, will unlock the "summer" stage if you peek at Imouto after returning early on an extremely hot day. In the game with the current system, it is almost impossible to achieve such values without cheats.
However, any events that reduce purple hearts (handjob in the bathroom) will reset all "extra" hearts above 7 to 6.

What will happen to hearts after the release remains to be seen.

This can be done at any point in the game; simply fill the meter above Imouto's head to 100%, and then hover your mouse cursor over Imouto, the recoloring of the hearts is accompanied by a corresponding sound.
Incidentally, there may be more "purple" hearts than "red" ones, but they won't be displayed. However, they will be used in choosing which scene variant to play.
There are some nuances here: reaching new red hearts can reset the excess number of purple hearts to the number of red ones.

i updated my 0.77D to 0.79G (manually), and when i got the "Rename your sister" prompt, i tried to name her Imouto. it worked for a few scenes, but then she got auto-renamed to Mio. Not that i mind the name, but will it always rename her to Mio, or can i force-change her name back to Imouto? or....well, any name?

i grabbed the 0.81B update from a few pages back, updated my copy of the game, played it through, and i got the anvil, but when i use it, it.....doesnt seem to repair anything?

at least on a weapon with 59% durability, the percentage doesnt seem to go up. is the anvil even working?

There are currently two bosses. The Beast is in the catacombs. Asaba, if you give her Asaba's strawberry (you need to kill Asaba for the strawberry).
Coming up is a beetle boss in the mushroom forest and a rabbit boss in a clearing with carrots.

I would say it's hard to guess.
Not only are the devs trying to get the game on steam, which requires them to make a sfw version of the game, but they also now have problems with itch and payment processors, meaning the game could be delayed further if they decide to create issues again.

you can equip new "dih" by opening Inventory double tap or just drag n drop, make sure there's no mobs around or you'll get fugged back while adjusting your dih

Anyone know how to use the shadow souls dlc item? I obtained it, but can't seem to find it in my inventory, and when I check an editor, it says I have 1, so not entirely sure what to do, and the masked guy is gone so I can't double check if I missed something somehow, there's just a letter where he normally is, and idk if there's a scripted event for where he disappears for a while. Setting it back to 0 in the editor doesn't change him appearing. Any ideas?
