Do you know if you ran out of memory? That's usually a big cause for it. Also depends on the version. The most recent release 4.10 is very stable. Also depends on whether your using GPU only, CPU only, or both. Can cause crazy things if you use both. Also optix I've noticed can sometimes bug out.

@DrDougal no problem. I'm working on some stuff myself. I prefer Gen8 myself as well. There's a lot of little tricks to learn but once you get them down it's fun and some things can go faster. One thing to really get down is lighting. That's one of the biggest slow downs for rendering. No matter what version.
