That's not entirely true. The old guys route works if it follows Sophia's corruption levels. It would be a slow burn, but let's say she has to bath them as part of her duties and surely they would become aroussed and make advances on her, but she would ignore it. Until her corruption got to a point were say her inhibitions were completely lowered and she hadn't had sex in a while and was really horny and wanted dick no mater what. Then it would work. I mean really that side route was introduced way too soon honestly and it was a waste of time that took from the original side routes. I mean honestly all it does is help illustrate L&P keeps introducing new shit to drag out the story and keep dangling that carrot in front of us all.

Shota, I'm not opposed to it but nor is it my thing either.
However, as it is in AWAM it doesn't work. L&P never made it part of Sophia's journey toward corruption, nor did L&P use it as a tool to define Sophia's character--it was just there, like a distraction. Having Sophia get it on with the family dog (if there was one) would have been equally pointless to have in the story.
The jury still is out with interracial corruption with Sophia, but it looks like what little there is of it, it's just BBC. Could the story progress without it, yes it easily can. And if rumors about the next update are correct, it's another pointless diversion.
In the beginning, Sophia's corruption paths were geared toward seeking and getting the attention of would-be lovers. It was more temptation and unfulfilled desires. Getting attention as a MILF, was early on and works great within the story, even if the developer wasn't going to go down that rabbit hole. Still, the developer did go down that rabbit hole, thus the Sam route. How the developer tried to make a Dylan/MILF/incest route was/is a whole hit and miss affair-- making the Dylan/Sophia route a sex-ed explanation for that relationship can be chalked up as a fail. A neglected, hyper-sexual, frustrated, midlife crisis woman could have alone propelled the Dylan/Sophia route.
Sophia becoming a switch-hitter was and is an early on trope that still works within the game. However, all these side events with all these other possibilities have watered it down a lot. Lesbian or the Bi route could have easily been forwarded if L&P keep it simple with Ellie, Emma, Patrica (the maid was a bit much).
Cheating/cucking of Liam there are some many routes open that it's a no brainer. Even the Bennet blackmail as soft a route there was in the beginning works within the story. Meeting Tyler/Logan at the dance club with Ellie, Patrica, and Sophia opened a clear door there; simply if Tyler got a lot farther with Sophia could have focused the Cuck paths down.
Regardless, had L&P kept the focus on the working paths, it would have allowed L&P to develop the themes of the tropes in the game such as pregnancy (other than Liam), corruption of her MILF admires (Sam, Dylan and Zac) and Sophia herself. Incest could have been kept to Sophia/Ellie/Dylan and could have expanded an Ellie/Dylan route. And other tags could be moved into without all these distractions

As far as MCs go, you're right because you really can't 'play' Dylan... you get a little more than just deciding to steal money. How you play Dylan has effects at the laundromat ... outcomes at the sleep over... etc. But all in all, Dylan doesn't have any effect on the game.
The real question is what is Dylan's importance to the game in general?
*Does the Amber/Dylan event have any long-term consequences?
*Does the sleep over have any ramifications that furthers any other paths or routes?
*Do any interactions with other characters pave the way to other events?
You can say yes to all three but only if:
a) Amber/Dylan leads to a sexual relationship and in tern it gives Dylan confidence to make moves on others.
b) The sleepover does open the door to an Ellie/Dylan route and if there is, Sophia may catch them in the act that leads to something else.
c) Dylan is plus 2 on hand jobs and 1 Blow job, which might get him other favors that leads Dylan to take action on his own.
Of all the male characters, Dylan has the most possibilities on affecting the game. You can't call him a MC, but certainly an important character and that is about it.

The reason I think we haven't had a Sam (in what a year?) is because L&P knows he can't just have another jerkoff moment with Sam and get away with it not hurting the story.
L&P can get away with little run ins between Sam and Sophia, but can't with any serious alone time between the two
From the perspective of choosing options, then yes, Dylan's options are not the most impactful. BUT, when Sophia is going through Dylan's path, her frame and how she saw things 8 days ago suddenly suffers a windows blue screen, she goes into total lobotomy, and she just lives in Dylan's fantasy.
Does a 40 yo woman wants to go to a club with a 16yo guy? NO, its embarrasing.
Does a 40 yo woman wants to be gropped and kissed in public by a 16yo guy? no, its embarrasing.
Does a 40 yo woman feels safe in a club with a 16yo guy defending her? no, its threatening and dangerous.
Etc...
Sophia doesn't want to take any of those options, you are just forced to live in Dylan's fantasy. If you swap things 180 degrees and ask before those events: "ey Sophia, what do YOU want at this point of the novel?" absolutely NONE of those things would be the reply, those are Dylan's replies. In AWAM S2 you do NOT live in Sophia's world, you are living in Dylan's world. We are mostly "living" in Dylan's fantasy from Sophia's perspective, not Sophia's "life / fantasy", and that makes Dylan the real protagonist.
The novel sometimes breathes when it moves away from Dylan', but the stupidification of Sophia is also gradually happening in the other paths. L&P is confusing corruption with submission and lack of self awareness. Sophia is in a huge lack of agency, of frame, of internal compass to feel like we are leaving her story. She is a passenger, not the captain. She is not the protagonist anymore, she is the main perspective, she is just the camera and the filler text, but she doesnt feel alive anymore.
Sophia S2 has better face (until recent changes), better ass, better tits (even if both look fake), better ambience lights and gloom, but she lost her soul, her opinion, her frame, her personality, etc...

I think that sort of proves the other posters point. They have a purpose... to check off a box on the fetish list. They have no purpose beyond that. I think LP basically admitted this in one of the emails that was posted here, in regards to the janitor (BBC) and nursing side-job (old men corruption). The same can be said about the Meyers kids, even though for obvious reasons he won't admit that one publicly.
Some games do that type of thing, a character/route for every fetish. But all of those are unabashed porn games, they don't attempt to be or even pretend to be "realistic". A thing that LP insists AWAM is.
All of these characters (a fetish for everything) and LP insisting on more or less building a world wide web of routes and relationships is the main reason this game is basically doomed.
For example on the party scene with Dylan/Ellie and their friends, LP felt the need to create new friends instead of using already existing ones. Things like that just bloat the game to extreme levels.
One of the most common things people talk about in this and the OT thread is the fact you can cut the large majority of the characters and the game will be better for it.
Unfortunately, LP doesn't see it that way. He thinks everything must go step by step, there must be a route/choice for every possibility etc.

That more or less sums up why I don't play the Dylan route. Except I go further, in that it makes no sense for them to take the sports car in the Prologue for Dylan to sit on Sophia's lap. Only reason I can see to choose the sports car option is that as a player, you've already decided to play the Dylan route.
I'm just waiting to see if L&P fixes the last Ellie event so that those who want the straight content can play it, and those that want the lesbian can play that branch. At the moment you can't separate the two.
And I agree about her stupefaction on other paths. I was hoping in the event with Logan and Tyler that Sophia would have more agency, especially since she doesn't like either of them right from the start. None of the decisions required to continue the event make sense for Sophia.
Although I believe Dylan is 17, and Ellie 18.
That Dylan doesn't make any decisions that affect the other routes is entirely my point.
