Doh! Yes, it is so relaxing now. I don't feel any of the stress that bright caution yellow was inflicting on me.

I hope if the "classy" outfit wins that L&P will ignore the poll, despite this being technically the wrong thing to do & undemocratic. [This Dev never said it was a democracy]. I don't like polls in these kinds of games/VNs but if they have to happen, it might be better if they concerned something meaningful, like whether to end the side jobs, or not, or which job to end etc. They should then lead to the wishes of the voters being implemented but part of me regards such polls as akin to a lead singer turning the mic to the audience, so that they then sing some well-known verse or chorus. I always used to think to myself that this was overused. I went to gigs to hear bands sing & play, not to belt out every other number myself. I hope Sam & co don't resort to this practice!

As for Aiden's fourth task, I have several ideas of what might be involved, even in the school setting but I won't speculate. Some lead on from task #3 & there have also been a few imaginative potential scripts along such lines contributed by participants in this thread. I agree with Bane71 that it would be very difficult to outdo the third task, which IMO was a tour de force.

I'm looking forward to all those players who don't want the blackmail route being able to bail via a Morello soldier or two. I'm expecting a certain amount of triumphalist celebration in the thread but that will be better than the tuts of disapproval & white knighting accompanying each step of the blackmail storylines. If the fans who choose to exit are as pleased as I was to see Dylan & Emma get together & end the Sophia/Dylan route, there'll be some very happy individuals & aren't we all here to try & be happier?

Increasingly I don't see much value in polls.

  • If polls influence important story elements you're diminishing your artistic vision
  • If polls only exist to influence minor decisions then is that really substantial engagement?
  • If poll results can be ignored, then what's the point?
If Patrons pay extra for the right to vote, and that vote is for something meaningless, then that's a waste of money. Is it really worth extra money to vote on an outfit? And if the dev overrules the results because the outcome was objectively awful, then what was the point?

I just don't see a lot of upside anymore to polls. I almost think that you're better off going to the extreme. Either have no polls or allow your Patrons democratic control over your game and give them what they want.

Firstly, do the patrons actually pay extra for the right to vote. Generally it is just to get access to exclusive teasers or insider information. Sometimes influencing minor decisions.

Influencing minor aspects is the most the Dev can do and the most the patrons expect. If the patrons could majorly influence the story then it's not the Dev's vision anymore as you said. The patrons support the Dev for his vision not their own. So I believe they themselves would prefer not to be given major decisions.

People just want to see that they can influence the game in some way, doesn't matter how big or small.

So the polls are not worthless. If the creator is genuinely in a confusion then they are useful. For minor things like hairstyle, clothing, accessories etc they can be used. They can be used for identifying how the general masses that support the creator actually think.

L&P's polls don't work because he gives a poll for something he already has a preference in and his preference is so strong, he is ready to disregard the poll all together. The other options are either not good or not what he likes. Which makes you question what was going through his head while giving the poll. Other developers don't have any problems because they don't have a preference
Only 177 votes cast out of almost 1600 patrons so I guess that you do have to be a certain patron level to cast a vote or lack of interest for the event.
His fave character poll got 2,666 votes total

OK. I think you bounced across several of the previous minefields here. And I don't think you actually set any off.

Polls, smolls, why have them? Well it is a way to give the big supporters some meat for their hard earned cash. Then if you (the Dev) blow them off do they bolt? It is up to the Dev to pick something innocuous to the story line or to present something that the Dev is comfortable doing. It will vary with every Dev and supporter. So, lipstick color, hairstyle, color of outfit, choice of personal protective device (Deagle, 9MM, taser, 3 UFC champs, Pet Tiger) whatever! L&P has chosen to have polls. L&P needs to be able to handle the heat if L&P 'chooses poorly". L&P's problem now. Not ours.

- Personally, I would like to see Bennett or Aiden meet a well dressed security team member from the casino and go on a fishing trip. It would be an adventure. Just Sayin'!

Other developers are also doing surveys on what clothes the MC should wear in the next update. But they don't do it so clumsily that everyone, including the developers, gets annoyed about it.
On the subject of the "White Knight". Zac could begin as such. Especially since Sophia sooner or later has to ask him not to tell Dylan about Aiden's blackmail. She will hope to have an ally. But Zac will more and more succumb to the temptation to exploit the situation for himself and only participate in the opportunities and later contribute ideas for the tasks himself. That would even be a compelling development for me.

Nice idea about Zac and since we have to make some sort of decision about Zac/Alyssa it could fit in.
Carry on with Zac's exploitation or stop it and go with Alyssa so this could be an extension of Aiden's tasks kind of.

DOH! Nail, Head!!! I think most of this 'poll' discussion is in agreement, However, IMO, your last paragraph captures an essence here. It is shown in so many of L&P's conversations with others. He don't give a rats ass about you! Why does L&P venture from the bat cave if there already is a plan? Why reveal / tease said plan and then bitch about it being revealed? Why produce so slowly you create a firestorm of dislike? Why is L&P this way? Who knows? (Rhetorical question please don't run with it.)

Just me but, I don't see being here if he is not at a day a year rate and soon. Even that is weak. 18 years to finish. Sorry, he is good at what he does art wise (who made the base character I ask). He ain't Michelangelo, he ain't DaVinci, and he ain't Warhol.
