The version says 1.01, so this game is literally complete right?
no bro,they decided to put down this game and turned to make a new short rpg game to earn some money because they met some technical issues on this game and also some development cycle problems.

So, for anybody curious about the state of this game, why it's been on hold / abandoned, what the devs are doing, etc:
  1. The game has been on hold multiple times. The original issue was the 999 maps (btw. the dev of Henteria Chronicles CH. 3 did solve that issue for his game by splitting it in 2 version. If I understood it correctly the dev of this game actually also had something like that in mind.
  2. After this issue they continued to work on it a bit while having side projects like ASMR versions for the first game (Kubel's Choker Disease, forget the correct name) and other stuff. In between they had some health issues but they continued to work on it. But they announced a loss in interest at some point and being struck in a creative rut. They proceeded to do the Kubel DLC after that. After being done with the DLC they wanted to continue, and they did for a bit, but after a bit they announced once again they are not feeling it and they want to put it on hold till they finished yet ANOTHER new game, which is the one they are currently working on since..... probably 6-10 months.
  3. That other game is the one titled "Magnolia" I think and it is about a female knight in her 30s kind of ostracized by her family for some reason and feeling like a failure going on a journey with a (considerably younger) MC and then a third person (MCs rival, fuckboy) coming in and corrupting her. Idk if it is related to the original game universe, Viscaria actually was connected to Kubel in terms of the world.
  4. The demo 1.01 is not a complete game, but it contains the 3 prologue chapters of the game. It basically introduces the games basic premise and the characters in the first 3 acts. Id say the playtime is around 5 hours depending on if you read every line or if you occasionally skip. It has multiple h-scenes for both FMCs and it introduces the basic setup. It is very well done, but it is still just a demo. A very long demo. Almost like (probably) 1/4 of the length of the entire game, maybe 1/3.
  5. The game is abandoned/on hold for an unspecified timeframe. Given it's been probably more than 5 years since the development of this game started and while there has been EXTENSIVE content created for it there has never been another demo or anything coming to the public after the first demo and given that development was halted multiple times to start a DLC or another game or another side project, this game could take anything up to another 5 years to even be completed. Esp. sinc the "new game" they are developing is not as far yet and most devs (this one included) takes multiple years to produce a game from scratch.
  6. Also the dev has been working on yet another game in-between which is a prequel story to Kubel that features the grandmother of the MC of Kubel when she was young. Tho that has had the least exposure on the ci-en updates so far and beyond character concepts nobody really know how much the dev did in regards to that game.

I really like their concept of having limited mana to control which curses to not/be developed.

Really interesting. The "999 Maps issue" is 999 a max limit for RPGMaker?

Well I think natively RPGMaker has limits on switches / variables as well but there are plugins that can extend that?

Pretty harsh. Curse of Kubel is a well made game, and this is a pretty excellent 'demo'.

In a massive project like this it's normal to run into unforeseen complications. TBH the entire project is massive in terms of scope + ambition.

It was a technical issue that led them to put the game on hold indefinitely, IIRC the version of RPG Maker they were using had a limit of 999 maps and the way they were developing the game was to use a lot of maps per event and ended up hitting the limit before been close to finish. There was a post on their CI-en where they explained trying a bunch of different plugins to circumvent the issue but couldn't find one that worked.

It was quite sad TBH, art was good and it seemed like it was going to be a very long and complex game, hence the use of a lot of maps (althought they did say they could've handle the use of maps better had they know about the limit)

Also around that time one of the developers had a really bad back injury that required surgery and couldn't work so much (recently started recovering).

All in all a bunch of unlucky circumstances that really amazes me they are still making another game after having to leave this one.
I've seen a lot of RPG Maker games and none of them had more than 150-200 maps. You have to think of maps as backgrounds, the physical place where something happens. Through the use of switches and variables you control which characters appear where and when. Maps usually only get duplicated when performance becomes an issue or when the map (in the editor) gets too cluttered. One map per event? Yea that's gonna add up very fast very quickly. This wasn't a technical issue, they were doing it wrong.

Now, there are in fact ways to go past the limit of 999 maps but the editor will get in your way. You'll effectively have to manage multiple separate projects and merge them together using custom tools. Not the end of the world but that work flow isn't particularly efficient.

Arbitrary editor limit... the data files are named Map001 through Map999. The RPG Maker player can be modified to accept more maps through plugins but the editor is closed-source and won't let you for example create a warp point to map 9001.

The editor imposes arbitrary limits of 5000 variables and 5000 switches though the RPG Maker player doesn't care.

Scan shows that picturesWithoutShake.JS in the js/plugins folder is infected with JS.Heur.Morpheus.19.514DF898.Gen, only appears when scanning zip though not the unzipped files
False positive. That file contains nothing special.
