I am going to split my first impressions in two parts, for obvious reasons. Normally I would review with this amount of content, but currently I'm undecided on what it deserves.
First of all, there is a hefty amount of content for an 0.1 version. The file size is still enormous though, attributed mostly to a large number of animations. Not too sure if
all of them are really necessary. Some of them do help to accentuate the mystery factor quite well though, so I do get why they were put in. Just that maybe this is a case of a little overkill. Good example is the
first appearance of the demon and the ghost. There were two animations with MC looking around, either one would have been enough in my opinion. Some of the loops are also maybe longer than they need be.
Renders are beautiful. The tone in the intro was very nicely done. DOF was sometimes a bit much I thought.
Characters look great. An extraneous amount of effort went into the design and setup of some assets like
the mangled corpse. Really helped a lot in immersing in the murder mystery. It is a lot of show
and tell and I kind of like it. It really gave me the feel of reading a book and following MCs story in everyday life until the
supernatural starts to happen.
And even afterwards it was quite intriguing. What would MC do? How would this affect his life?
There is music in many parts and while the more upbeat segments were not my cup of tea, the soundscape in the scenes going for mystery/dread all the more were.
The sex scenes (excluding the demon app) had great and long build up. The sounds were not always too fitting and a bit repetitive, mostly because if you read slowly you go through the loops quite often.
The scenes in the demon app I did not like. Felt lifeless and disconnected.
TLDR/Conclusion: The VN part is a great start into a murder mystery with fantasy elements. In spite of the large amount of text I kind of enjoyed actually reading through it. The game takes its time to great effect, but then it all comes crashing down. The sense of dread and so forth is practically deleted from one scene to the next with the start of the sandbox. Gone are the pressure on MC with working on the murder case next to his curse. You spend days upon days with all the sandbox stuff and noone at work bats an eye? This story had me really well immersed and suddenly all of that is gone.
This is of course not my game. But I just wondered if it wasn't much better off with just being a Visual Novel story. I just can't see the value the sandbox brings to it compared to the thrill and immersion the first part gave me. Maybe a future update fixes this by incorporating the main story well. I don't know. It just doesn't give the same feel is the gist of my issue I suppose. The writing in the first part connected the different elements and events in a manner that made sense to me.
Overall I would rate the VN part an absolutely awesome start and the sandbox a questionable clusterfuck I can't make heads or tails of when I compare it to the start. Like 4.5 stars vs 2. Going to review this when an update drops and I can see what that makes of all this.
Nonetheless, thank you very much for the experience,
novaporoid! The story looks very intriguing and the characters and renders look great. The writing, the mood and the characters all caught me right off the bat. Hats off, that was really good. I just don't get what the sandbox is meant to deliver here. I will keep an eye out on how it proceeds in the future. Good luck!
Cheers =)
Wait we have to share the girls with others males?
✦ Matchmaker ✦
Under Devil's Lair, an app where you earn money by pairing girls with clients. Improve their stats to increase your earnings!
So far it seems like those girls are just images, they are not from the pool of LIs and not even from the pool of side flings, but a completely separate squad specifically for only that thing. Though since the sandbox seems not fully done, this is potentially subject to change and only the dev could tell you definitively. They weren't active around here for a while now though. Also I did not explore it in greater depth myself. The sandbox did not exactly catch me.
