Loving your game. I can tell that you are putting a lot of work into trying to make a great game. I initially wasn't happy with the redesigns but once you worked out the redesign it's really come into its own. I have been enjoying the story immensely and the cast of characters is a great nod to the original but feels unique. It will be interesting to see what the final product looks like. Keep up the good work.

I do have a question do you plan to stick with only Overwatch characters as inspiration or are you also going to include Overwatch 2 inspired characters?

Okay, so we have some explaining to do.

First things first — Reina (Sombra) will receive another redesign (yeah, we know, we know) and we will make her sprite to be more in-style with the base game and bring more of her original colors back. Expect something like what we did with Zahera's (Pharah's) new sprite:

You can clearly tell the character she is supposed to represent from OW, but she's unique enough and her sprite looks really close to the old style we're using. And yeah, along the way we made some mistakes with Zahera's design as well, but she was way easier to fix than Reina, because Sombra's whole thing was purple color + cybernetics, so we thought the only logical thing to distance Academy from the OW universe would be to get rid of those two things, and.. well, that ended up turning Reina into an absolutely different character. So in the future expect us to make less drastic changes in our redesigning process and to use art similar to the style of Luca (the latest character we released (a femboy btw)):

So why Zahera ended up looking OK and Reina didn't? Well, plain and simple, she was our first try and we fucked it up. We're sorry, we will do better.

You gave us a lot of feedback and some of your ideas will be included in Reina's new look. We can't give any dates on when we can do that, because right now are hands are full with the Overhaul Update that reworks more or less the entirety of the game foundation, and you can probably imagine just how much time it takes away from all the other stuff we need to do.

Dude just pls don't change Widow's look in the future, that's all I ask,..

It's probably because you are using a save that is no longer supported. We're really sorry, it was due to the name change. Ren'py is very dependant on names, since it's whole structure is based around it, so old saves that contain old names cause a lot of problems.

You can try using the "skip to new content" or unlock the gallery if you want to get all the content.

This game needs a walkthrough and rollback, walkthrough because "tasks" are straight up garbage (i know I'm really rude here, but I couldn't find a better word to describe it) and rollback because while writing is nice, I prefer to skim through text when something I'm personally not interested in is happening, but then if the scene ends there is no going back and no log either.

To explain why tasks system is atrocious: it takes too many clicks to even get to it, then it takes too many clicks to navigate it and even then, when starting out, finding a character just by name then finding another character that is needed for the first character to move forward is a massive pain with this UI.

For an example how it can be done in a simple yet functional way you can check Lust Harem, even there it's not the best way I've seen it done, but it works good enough.

Thread title and downloads are wrong, the zips say v0.19.2.2 but they actually contain v0.19.1.2.

It's sad to see what happened to the game, these types of changes kill games specially those made for niche audiences (the word niche gives the reason why), hopefully it can get back on track with the planned patches.

I'm still not sold on the sprites, there is just something missing, but I'm not a supporter so hopefully the true community of this game can give the feedback it deserves

Well Last time I played was in 14.2 and it seems I can't use my old saves anymore and will have to start over.
I come afterthe renames to separate game from OW and only gripe I kind of have is that the redesigns seem to be with a different artstyle than the original art?

I am not saying it is bad art or design is not good but it does clash a litle with older art

The bottom one in the example you replied to is the old art style, which we are replacing bit by bit. That being said, it is still not the best example of the changes, since Reina (blue-haired punk girl on the top screenshot) was our first shot at updating the looks, and we aren't fully satisfied with the result. We will be revisiting her sprites soon to bring them closer to the initial style, so they won't stick out like a sore thumb. We will also adjust the colors and some elements of her look to make sure she's recognizable when you compare her to Sombra, whom she's inspired by.

Our user experience is shit and we're well aware. It was designed by us back when we barely had any idea what this game should look like once it's finished, and now it's just a huge fucking hustle to change. Still though, we will be updating those elements throughout the year, so hopefully you will see improvements relatively soon. We are also looking to bring a proper UX expert on board for that, so they can help us figure that out once and for all.

When you start a new game, there's an option to skip straight to new content, which will unlock most of the routes and gallery. You can also just unlock the entire gallery through the settings menu, there's a button at the bottom left. No need to replay anything.

Man last time I played was the D.VA/Sombra update... what happened to their designs and name? Copyright? They look so bland.

Well, the only character that changed is Sombra, and even then we will get back to her design to bring her closer to the original look, because we took it step too far. Other than that, we didn't do any significant changes ever since. The reason for changes is the fact that our game grew too big to be comfortable with using someone else's IP, so to avoid a potential lawsuit we made small tweaks here and there, and changed the names.

As I said, Reina's (Sombra) design will get adjusted, so it's won't be a completely new character anymore, and the rest of the designs will be kept as close to the original as possible. Name's though will stay as they are, but we are adding an option to change any name yourself.

Yup, we did exactly that. There's like 500+ pages of story script in our game, trying to go through manually would have taken as forever and more. We tried to fix all of those mistakes before releasing, but some still slipped through. Thanks for pointing it out!

i have yet to play this update but just looking at this hurts. the main character doesn't look like he fits in with the redesign. if he was at least redesigned to this new art style it would be easier to overlook the drastic change but currently he looks like a 2d character interacting with a 2.5d character. it's just uncomfortable to look at.

The biggest problem is that the rest of the characters is drawn in much higher resolution, since we will be bringing our game to a proper FullHD. He will be updated or at least upscaled, and characters like Reina, whom new design is using completely new artstyle will get adjusted to fit in a bit more. We're working on solving this problem, so don't worry.

The good thing (or bad, depending on how you view it) is that Sombra and Phara are the only ones in a different art style so far.

Pharah has already been updated to fit better with the old art style. Sombra will also get adjusted as I pointed in previous replies. Our first few redesigns went rocky, because we didn't have a pre-existing pipeline when it comes to their creation, but from now on it should look more more fitting, example below.
