What are the other possibilities ? A honey pot hosting site, created specifically by the Australian government to track porn users ? Unless you use a recent hosting site, we would know it if one of the others was a trap.
And of course, the Australian government haven't compromised the main routers in the country to monitor the traffic.

The (sad) truth is that there's way more fear on the net than there's real legal risks.
When it's purely and strongly illegal (so, for porn, mostly p*d*shit), there's risks if you go to some obscure sites, or too recent ones. They can be traps with, behind, cops who analyze everything. But it don't apply to sites like this one, it's too old and there's too many members. If it was a trap, once again we would know it.
What doesn't mean that there isn't some cops here, there surely is. But they aren't here for you, and they can only see what you publicly say. But what they did on the net serve as proof of a previous suspicion. They know that X is doing something illegal and then, through a legal process generally involving a judge, ask your ISP to either track your activity, or to provide the logs regarding your activity.
In the majority of cases it works in this order, they know before they have the proof. So, have you reason(s) to suspect the authorities to be actively tracking you ? If, as I guess, the answer is no, you've nothing to fear.
Strictly speaking, you can download all the illegal content you want. As long as you don't trigger the attention of the authorities by going on shady sites, and/or uncertain sites that are traps, and/or saying things that make you suspicious, no one will know that you exist.
And, no, as I implied above, telling here that you are from Australia and download porn is not enough. I don't know what is the criminality states of Australia, but I'm sure that they have enough works, with way more dangerous people than you. They simply don't have time for trivialities like this.
