patreon got put under review so there isn't any way to extort money from the suckers that were still subbed to it. this will never get finished and frankly after 2 years the render quality (witch is the main selling point) is now nothing out of the ordinary.

Would be nice, i liked the first release and the characters, but i won't hold my breath for it.

The render quality is still among the top games here.
Yeah, we will see if the dev stays true to his words. Many devs say they will retuen to work on their games only to disappear again, or vanish after 1 or 2 updates.

Nah the dev will never complete the game. Esp with his patreon under review...
Dont trust a dev that have MIA for years without a word. Anything said now is bullshit... he could have paused or provided some info for MIA so long...

Probably back to get people back so he can continue milking

Why don't creators finish creating games and abandon them halfway through,

Really annoying
There are lots of reasons for that,
some money related like,
  • their support pages don't get the traction they wanted.
  • the money they are getting is too little to work they needed to do.
  • They get some supporters and they think that's enough to milk.
  • They think somehow staying silent keeps some people unaware they are paying to them.
  • They earn so little, they simply lose their interest.
  • Their page got nuked for whatever reason.
some related creative front like,
  • they had a good idea for the start but don't know what's next.
  • they simply run out of the creative juice.
  • They let story create itself, they don't like what it became, so they distance themselves of their own game.
  • They let story created by the followers, they don't like what it became, so they distance themselves of their own game.
  • They make their game too complicated to continue to the story.
  • They are limited by the support page (mainly Patreon) and they can't create what they want.
  • They start over ambitious and got hit by the limitations like their own skill, hardware being not enough, software being not good enough etc.
  • Genre hater. There is even tags for it, some of the tags has their own special warning just before the download links. But the haters came to threads spread their toxicity and they don't stop until dev somehow change their own story or just leave the platform. You can't believe how much it effects people, mentally and monetary.
some related life reasons like,
  • they got hit by the the life. Look around you and you'll find people get fucked by the life, devs of AVNs are not exception to that either.
  • Dev lifestyle is not a healthy one. If they are full timers, they need to work maybe up to 15 hours a day to deliver expectations, constantly. That means stressed by the deadlines, while sitting and looking at a screen long times. It's really not good for your health, neither psychical nor mental. Hence, devs getting sick left and right. If they are half timers, they use the time wherever they can scrap, so they end up being overworked people who has no love left for their own creation.
  • Unappreciative, toxic so-called fans. They pay nothing or so little - does not really matter if they pay fortune, unless they are investors but that's different topic- they demand to bend the story to their way, demand things would not work in a million years, they are being hurtful too. That makes devs, uninterested to their own creation. At the end, this is some sort of art. They create these to share with people, when they got hit with these people. They lose interest.
  • Again, they lose their story with some reason and become uninterested to their own creation.
  • AVNs works like art more than a job. When you expect a creation that needs inspration on a strict schedule with deadlines. It will create immense stress over the creators. Hence, either the quality drop or game getting drop altogether.
  • Lazy devs. They are simply lazy people, they start with some early inspiration then they start to laze. To keep the interest of people, they start lying with promises. Then, they under deliver or not deliver at all. It became a friction between them and the supporters, spirals down from there and ends up with abandoned game.
  • They don't earn enough to keep producing. I vaguely remember one dev abandoned his game by saying, he has no food to eat and haven't eaten for awhile and he said he can't keep doing that, so he had to leave.
  • People do need money to live, devs need more to invest so they can create. People are too easy to judge if an image is too grainy but they don't support the dev so they can buy a better hardware. They say, I won't play this one because it has no animation, without thinking if the dev has the skills, or the hardware or the money to outsource the animation.
So on and so on. We could find many more we if look at it more. At the end of the day, be happy if the dev working on something you like, support them if you can. If you see them going down on a bad route, give them some space. And never ever keep supporting a dev who is milking. If you punish the ones who have bad intentions and reward the ones with good ones, then we'll see the decrease on the abandoned game. The question is though, how do you filter people with bad intention from people who got hit with bad luck, that's probably up to your own gut I suppose.

If a dev is going to stop at least give people closure. Dont even need to tell us why you are stopping, just a single post saying sorry but the project is dead. It would be nice too if they shared their thoughts, like what they were planning for the plot, unpublished images and random things they wanted to put into the game, etc.

Whatever, maybe Yuno died crossing the street and the next update is finished on his HDD unpublished.

Why don't creators finish creating games and abandon them halfway through,

Really annoying
personal issues (health, psychological, family etc)
don't get enough money (especially now with the mess the world is in)
don't have enough time
sure, there are also people that want to scam, don't care etc, but I don't think that there are as many you think they are.
life happens. There are companies that went bankrupt, and I'm talking about professionals, people with money, an established audience etc (ubi has to sold a lot to tencent if i remember correctly) that screw up. Sure it's sad, it's annoying, it's infuriating, but you have to make a choice: do i support x dev, knowing that i might get screwed, or i will not, knowing that that game may never see the light of day because I didn't support it. Well it's more complicated than that, but you get the idea :p

Too bad some of the stories were actually good.

Oh shit. Well, thats nice, but hes gone again it seems lol. And he didnt really address anything, so idk what he meant by "a lot happened (some i shared, some i didn't)" but time will if he keeps his word.

Edit

I should reiterate that I am happy to see hes at least made a return of sorts and posted here. But if he has no intention of actually coming back and wont elaborate on what he had planned for the plot or what happened to him, then it might have been best to not come back at all. Lets see how things play out.

he's not coming back, at least under his current username. his reputation is torched and patreon gone. he has nothing to come back to, might as well start with a clean slate so there is more potential victims.

Yeah, but your text has just one problem. It's on internet. People will never ever understand the reasons and will always criticize.
