Is there fairly amount of content to the female characters too or its mostly the male character focused?
I'd say it feels like a relatively equal amount of focus on each character individually, but there's also 5 male options and only 2 female options, so
overall it's more male-focused (and you'll have more freedom of choice as a gay/bi male or straight/bi female).
That being said, I played as a female character with the intention of staying fully lesbian, but the narrative felt like the "right" choice was a very specific male LI. On the other hand, I don't feel like the story suffered any by ignoring that possibility and just sticking to female only. And I feel like it would be perfectly fine to play as a straight male who only wants to romance women if that's your interest.
Basically, the story kind of focuses on all of the NPCs at various points in the story, and whenever you're in a conversation with one of the potential LI characters, you'll have the option to either flirt or give a more neutral reply. In the early parts of the story the character you've flirted with the most will occasionally get an extra line or two with the context of them showing their interest in you, but about halfway through you have to pick a specific LI that you're interested in, and they get locked in for all the romantic scenes after that (and the game explicitly tells you that you're locking your LI in at that point).
You can even go non-romantic if you want - you can pick "none" at the decision point and the game continues just fine from there, and you can just be platonic friends with everyone if that's your thing.
A few of the characters will express relationship interests of their own if you don't engage with them (one of the crew has a crush on someone else in the crew, two of the crew will develop crushes on people outside of the crew later in the story), but if you do pick them as the one you're interested in that will never come up (I didn't even realize it was a thing until I went back and played a second route).
It's a fairly well-written story. If you're looking for a narrative experience with a bit of romance and not just "porn game", it's probably worth it.
