Animations, are they worth it?

Would you sacrifice animations in favor of faster / bigger updates

  • Yes, I would sacrifice all animations if it means faster / bigger updates

  • There should be as many animations as possible even if it means smaller / slower updates

What gets me the most are short "cold" sex scenes. Puts dick in ass or pussy and one two three sex done. NO build up, no longevity nothing. 15 seconds and sex scene done. I just cannot get immersed in those. Even if the animations are a little robotic if the overall sex scene is planned and fairly long without being annoyingly long then it all works.
A bit like how porn become.. cut out everything except the act itself. No lead up, no, foreplay if you want to call it that. The money shoot is just the "pay off", but the build up is the actual enjoying part imho...

Seeing games with like anal sex, and no prep or such, and the mc just shoe horn a horse dick inside. It's like the creator/dev is completely clueless.

It is possible, you can even do that in html games, but you'll have to code most of the stuff yourself.

About animations: I love them! Not the rendering part, and not the part where you have to fix all the bugs that you didn't see before rendering, but the outcome when it's finally done and it looks well.
It's a shitload of work and costs a lot of time, and yes, Daz is neither the best program to make animations, nor to render them, even most of the preset animations from the Daz and renderosity stores look shitty, but even in other programs like blender, maya, or sfm it takes a lot of time, and that's the biggest reason why they are so sparse, and even fewer that look good in (VN) games.
It's no easy task, but I personally think that it's worth it when the outcome is good. I always wanted to see more good animations in VN's.
You can certainly use opengl with the canvas system that is part of thml 5. It also seems you could use vulcan with wasm(web assembly) and webGPU.
Web assembly will allow creating basically native speed aps that can run through the browser or I should say does allow.

I believe i did that in RTP S3E2 with Nicky...
You could have spoilered that ;) (I did already play it though) but you are absolutely right about that! Fantastic scene!!! (y)

until you actually make games/animations in DAZ yourself you will never really grasp what devs are on about how much time it takes... and how rewarding it is if you made an animation that looks good.
Maybe this is the crux of the matter. Of course, if a dev enjoys making animations, then I'm not going to complain about it, even if it slows down the update.

I'm in the "nice to have" camp. I think a game can still be good even with zero animations. I also think you're better off with no animations than poorly done animations. That said, there are a number of preposed animation plugins that an amateur can use that produce fairly good animations. Most of the ones I'm aware of are by Stimuli but I'm sure there are others.

They still require some manual tweaking though or you'll get clipping or small positioning issues. If your models aren't exactly the same size and shape as the ones used to make the posing plugin you'll either have clipping or air gaps between the models unless you manually adjust them. Sometimes you can avoid having to do that if you use a camera angle that hides the positioning issues since most body size/shapes are still going to be close to correct without tweaks.

If you're actually good at creating your own original animations then I think it's worth the time to add a decent number of them. If not then a few Stimuli based animations in certain scenes are still appreciated. If you have a slow computer/GPU then it's probably better to avoid them until you upgrade since it takes so much more time than still shots.

One other thought I’ve had- this thread is really focused on 3D animation using DAZ, but there’s still a whole lot that can be done with 2D. I’d even argue that some of the current programs we have are actually really great for 2D animation.

Perhaps, but:
- Animations still take a lot more time than stills, 3D or 2D, therefore the question "is it worth it?" still applies.
- 2D vs 3D is a different discussion. Both styles have fans and haters. Personally I can live with 2D but prefer 3D (when done properly of course).

I'll chime in and say some of the best games I ever played were text adventures, even in the genre of adult games, so it isn't necessary if the game is fun. But personally, I do enjoy seeing animated sequences. The exception being when they slow gameplay down, by being long and forced, especially when they are repeated sequences.
