Any Reason why very few games have sex sound?

This is something I have been wondering, during sex scenes why the majority games don’t have have sex sounds. Moaning, breathing, body slamming into each other, etc.

Without it makes most games no different than CGs.

Thoughts? Is it difficult to add to the game or most developers don’t think it is valuable.

99% of the games i play, i play with some background music on (Spotify most of the time).
I really don't like voices, sex sounds and things like that.
Maybe it's because i like to fantasize myself about how those characters sound or how those situations goes.

Another thing is that i play these games in my media room, and my Fiancé is there also a lot of times (Streaming or working or just relaxing) so it's kinda weird for me to play with sex sounds and thing on, and annoying for her when she is trying to play a game or watch a tv show :p )

It's a lot of work I can tell you. My game "Battle of the Bulges" has over 300 sound effects, I should know.

I don't add them because personally I really dislike them.
First thing I do if I open a game and hear sound is go into the menu and mute everything.
I don't want to hear doors opening and closing, some random moans, ball sacks slamming thighs etc, plus I find it better to imagine what a character sounds like if they aren't voiced, then you hear some random "oh yeah" from a woman and that's the characters "voice" except you'll never hear them say anything else.

Despite porn telling you otherwise a lot of women don't make attractive noises when they orgasm.

According to my partner I sound like a Seal in heat. She has room to talk with her drooling and panting, looking like a drunk lobotomy patient when she cums.

Point is, some women sound hot as hell and look incredible when they hit climax ... some of us would scare the dead.

It's harder to find pleasant sounds to add to a game than it is just to ignore it completely. I've heard a lot of sex sounds in games and some of them aren't great, it wasn't worth the effort.

There are some voice actresses that can make incredible sounds but they tend to charge quite a lot. Ripping from a porn movie just sounds awful.

The thing, for me, is if we were to go ahead with sound, we'd want something quality that seemed consistent, blended in. The only game I've played that used more consistent sound was Daughter for Dessert. It does anything but blend in.

I have big plans for the future, if things work out, and should I get to work on that dream project, there would be a budget for actors and sound designers, then I could try and say, yeah, lets do that, but as it is, the type of sound I have access to isn't worth the hassle.

For me, sound effects only serve to distract me when I play visual novels. My first action in any game, is to open settings and mute everything. I dont want sound effects from doors or moaning during sex, or voices from characters. I prefer to read the character's lines in my own made-up voice in my head, and often they sound nothing like the sound effects.

It is kinda the same problem Fallout 4 faced when they introduced a voiced protagonist. The fans of Fallout prefer making up their own voices and backstories for their characters, but adding voices to the protagonist severely limits the ability to roleplay, and because of this, Bethesda faced a ton of backlash for it. I would be surprised if the next Elder Scrolls/Fallout game (not including Fallout 76) would come with voiced protag. Then again, bethesda are not exactly known to be the sharpest tools in the shed.

A lot of that backlash was from modders like me that used to make long quest mods.

It's impossible to make quest mods that fit in with Fallout 4 because we don't have access to the voice actors for the protags so anything we make feels out of place once added to the game. The protag either goes silent or it's a different voice entirely both of which don't fit with the game.

It could have been worse though, they could have released an online only Fallout game that can't be modded ...... *sigh.

That was part of the backlash, but not at all the sole cause of it. The previous games had an extremely lose backstory and no voice at all, so you could make up any kind of character and voice in your head. Whenever I play Skyrim for example, I always read my lines in the voice of Yuri Boyka for some reason. In fallout 4, we are not just given a voice, but a specific backstory (you are either a retired war veteran or successful lawyer, and you enjoy the quiet life with your family) which is a slap in the face, to people who loves roleplaying.
Also, another huge problem was the fact that suddenly we always needed 4 choices in dialogue, even when it could/should be more or less, depending on the scenario. Most times when you choose a response, the response is basically just 2 answers, with 1 of them worded in 3 slightly different ways. I remember sometimes in Fallout 3 or NV, when you would sometimes be presented with 8 or more dialogue choices, which really shows how limited the voiced protag makes the available choices in the game.

In any case, it will always be a subjective matter. Some people love voiced characters in a roleplaying game, and some people hate it. And others don't care at all. It depends on the person. In my own opinion, the sound effects and voiced characters limits the player's ability to portray themselves as the character they are playing, but that is just me. Some people might (they will) disagree, and that is fine. Their opinion is no less valid than mine.

I don't mind voice acting for pre set characters.

If i'm playing a Witcher game for example, I expect it voiced. I don't think they would be anywhere near as good without Geralts dead pan delivery.

That said when i'm playing an RPG that has me create my own character I either want it to remain voiceless or at least have options of that voice.

Just to add a tiny bit to the discussion, making quality sounds for a porn game in-house would be pretty expensive and laborious.
Good microphones are not cheap and one would probably need to throw in an audio card and some quality software as well.
Oh, and the acoustics of the room also matter.

Then come the problem, why MC is silent when everyone else is vocal ?
In conclusion, if you start to voice one of the character, you should voice them all... then loose part of the player because they can't feel something for a character with a voice so different from theirs. Or you voice nothing, which is better.

Voice is one thing. But depending on the game, I think the ambiance sound is important.
Stuff like a gunshot sound enhances the storytelling.

I don't use it a lot, but I do use it when I think it's important and would add to the immersive feeling.

Thanks for the replies, kinda surprised so many dislike sex sound effects. I guess i see why few game developers add it, lots of work and few people who actually enjoy it.

Btw i was not talking about full on porn video sound effects or voiceover, just the mere slightest.
