That's great.Great idea! I have made a patreon but I'll only share it once the first chapter is out. Wanna focus on making a good game before thinking about monetizing it haha. It's a passion project of mine after all.
Also, I might be doing the opposite of what you wrote here. Based on the votes here, I decided to make he first chapter not to be so lengthy. But it I aim to make it satisfying to read, aiming to achieve 30 minutes of play-time if read in a savory manner.
I aim to make the second chapter much longer as I will have a solid first chapter and code to build it on.
Anyways, next you'll be hearing from me when I finish all my art needed for the chapter! Wish me luck haha
I like the approach of only doing a patreon/subscribestar once you already got something out, that definitely will help your image, people will appreciate that. But smart of you to set up the infrastructure, I think thats a good approach, be ready then choose the best moment to advertise it.
I second the warnings some people have with patreon and content policy. I think there is ways to get around it, with indirect links and whatnot, but patreon definitely is stricter when it comes to the content of the game, so its possible they will one day notice or be told that your story contains elements they dont like and they will shut the page down. That is why many people have a subscribestar (or other page) - some additionally, others don't even have a patreon (anymore).
I think there is also this one website, how was that called....
You must be registered to see the links
- that's it! Had to look that up. Idk how that one works but ik a lot of h-game creators got their free demos on there, so maybe they also have some payment or support structure you could look into. Either way, good luck with the game.
Glad to see you already got your script figured out (full script or just Chapter/Act 1? either is impressive).
