I agree with the OP. If you were to watch a porn movie, for example, it gives the disclaimer that you have to be 18 to watch the movie to cover their bases legally; it doesn't then ask you if you're 18, it just plays the movie.

I feel it should be the same for porn games. Let us know we need to be 18 and then continue with the game. Plus, for the sake of argument, let's say I'm 16; if I wanted to play the game anyway, I would just click yes. So short of tracking down IPs of everyone playing and physically verifying that the player is, in fact, 18 then if someone wants to play the game, they will.

It's better to include a word of caution about NSFW content before entering the game.

I've never thought much about it myself, but what actually throws me off a little bit each time I see it is when a game asks me if I'm actually eighteen years old or not. Like, what if I'm way older than that? I mean, at that point I do the sensible thing and be logical again, and read between the lines and conclude that the developer most likely meant "are you OVER 18?" or "are you 18+?". But you gotta see some humour in it when you're pushing fifty and then some games try to confirm that you're precisely eighteen years old. Or else!

being 34, I completely understand this, I haven't had to worry about being 18 for some time now :ROFLMAO:

18+ questions should be immersive
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

re:
I guess It is annoying that you open same game on same PC and it still asks you "Are you 18+?". Dev's should use some persistent to enable or disable. If once it is selected "I'm 18+" than on that PC it shouldn't ask again.
then it would only display the warning for the first person launching the game on that pc/user account = may as well not be there.

It doesn't really annoy me, it's kind of like in those old ass video rental stores that had an 18+ curtain before you can enter the promised land, I'm sure for underaged people it adds to the taboo of doing something naughty and not allowed by mommy, like a sexual cookie jar.

We have to put it there for monetisation reasons. Primarily if your game features kinks like incest, you have to put a disclaimer in there that it's not incest despite the sister repeatedly encouraging her brother to cum inside her. Or else no Patreon for you bruh.

There are legal reasons as well. We can't control where our game shows up. Some download platforms don't care about anything, but it is our logo thats shown, so any authoritarian government that takes offence will knock on our doors. And with our doors I mean at Patreon's door, so no Patreon again for you bruh.

I understand the warning, I'm just curious about the asking if you're 18 part. If that is part of the stipulations then I completely respect that. I am not a dev, so I admit I'm ignorant, I'm just curious about the various rules that certain sites would have toward adult content; and if that is one of them then I retract my earlier statement. After all, there is always more than one side to a coin

I think the "agree" button in one place is unnecessary, and legally speaking, you only need the disclaimer. But pressing a button on your screen is a legal action of consent or agreement. The dev might feel more comfortable with that, knowing that if a person clicked on that button, any dispute about their age would technically mean they (the player) committed fraud.

I agree, player would never knows what the game entails. There could be a ton of unfiltered, pure and raw highly spiced content (read: disturbing) that are not disclosed on the front page. So by putting a sign "This game contains NSFW contents" and write the tags in parentheses could make a big difference, rather than "Are you 18+???:oops::oops:." without telling what the fuck is in the game.

Disclaimers are fine, whatever, but confirmations are annoying. I downloaded the damn game, you better believe everyone answers "yes" regardless of age.

I fail to recall the name, but there was one VN who nested three confirmations requirements in: "Are you 18+", "Are you sure?" and "press Continue if you're sure".

I do enough consenting and clicking with these stupid cookie popups everywhere.

Agreed, 18+ warnings in general is just useless dumb idea.
Something's telling me that It means entirely something else. Even adults get offended by stuff in those games and yet there are young fucks who have it earlier and more mature than them.
It means like it should warn instead "no incels" or some shit like that.
The game that gotten closest to warning like that was the Mario sexting cuck game (traumatic game btw).
