It is impossible to not project yourself into the game, because YOU are moving the story. YOU are the trigger of everything what happens in the game. The main character is YOUR avatar, objectification of YOUR will. And being thrown into the story, where YOUR actions are making a wife of YOUR avatar to cheat is... a dubious fun, and sounds more like a punishment. That's not the same as reading a book, you see?
That's why I find it difficult to understand NTR enjoyers. Maybe they are really masochists, who like to be punished...?
