It's a thing with the latest Windows update - I had the same issue. The latest update apparently causes the catastrophic failure to your HDD/SSD when you try to extract large files.
You can uninstall the latest update and it should work fine.
This one took a bit to get going. The first two ish chapters feels like aimless wandering because you don't really have an actual goal, and enemies giving less gold than spell cost makes the fights a slog.
Thankfully that's solved as the game goes on, and the story does take off, but there was definitely a period early on where I had to slog through.

Anyone know how to progress in chapter 2? find work in town? talked to 3 npcs with the green "event" text on top, but don't know what to do from there. they just disappear and no new event icons show up, nor any new places to go.
