They're rioting in Africa
They're starving in Spain
There's hurricanes in Florida
And Texas needs rain.

The whole world is festering
With unhappy souls
The French hate the Germans,
The Germans hate the Poles

Italians hate Yugoslavs
South Africans hate the Dutch
And I don't like anybody very much

But we can be grateful
And thankful and proud
That man's been endowed
With a mushroom shaped cloud

And we know for certain
That some happy day
Someone will set the spark off
And we will all be blown away

They're rioting in Africa
There's strife in Iran
What nature doesn't do to us
Will be done by our fellow man.
Teddy sniffing glue he was twelve years old
Fell from the roof on East Two-nine
Cathy was eleven when she pulled the plug
On twenty six reds and a bottle of wine
Bobby got leukemia, fourteen years old
He looked like sixty five when he died
He was a friend of mine
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends and just died
G-berg and Georgie let their gimmicks go rotten
So they died of hepatitis in upper Manhattan
Sly in Vietnam, bullet in the head
Bobby OD'd on Drano on the night that he was wed
They were two more friends of mine (two more friends that died)
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends and they died
Mary took a dry dive from a hotel room
Bobby hung himself from a cell in The Tombs
Judy jumped in front of a subway train
Eddie got slit in the jugular vein
And Eddie, I miss you more than all the others
And I salute you brother
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends, and they died
Herbie pushed Tony from the Boys' Club roof
Tony thought that his rage was just some goof
But Herbie sure gave Tony some, some bitchen proof
Hey, Herbie said, Tony, can you fly?
But Tony couldn't fly, Tony died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends and they died
Brian got busted on a narco rap
He beat the rap by rattin' on some bikers
He said, hey, I know it's dangerous
But it sure beats Riker's
But the next day he got offed
By the very same bikers
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends, and they died

That's a lie. Never met a german in my whole live who hate the poles and I'm surrounded by germans since my birth.
As a german, I can confirm that.
I guess you young whippersnappers are to young to recall that whole WWII thing. Not to mention the conflicts between the two peoples going back centuries. There is a long history of conflicts between Germanic and the West Slavic peoples.

Those lyrics were written back in 1958 by Tom Lehrer, when memories of those conflicts were fresher. A lot of it still rings true today, though, if not that particular one.

My four grandparents survived the shoa as kids. Their respective family didn't. You don't have to tell me anything about "that whole WWII thing". You don't have to tell any german about "that whole WWII thing" anyway. There's no topic which we had as often as this one in school. We know about our history and what that generation of germans did.

You said it. It's history. It is what I wrote. Never met a compatriot who hate polish people. Sure, Germany has 83 million citizens. For sure there are a some who does. But they are to few to occur and at least they have no impact to german society. Not forget to mention the 2.5 millions immigrants from poland and their descendants since end of WWII. Every German had Poles in their school classes. Every German has workmates in first or second degree who are polish or has parents or grandparents from Poland. I won't deny that peoples from other countries are believing that germans have those hate. But that's prejudices with no valid background.

I know Tom Lehrer. But the problem is he never was in germany and all is knowledge is second degree.

So Germans only hate Poles when they're ruled by an Austrian?
It's 2022 not 1939. I can't speak for the people who lived at that time. I can only tell what it is in present. We don't hate Poles.
