... ? Or even nowadays? In our present world?
If you say yes: which of these in Ataegina mentioned skills do you think are possible?
After there were no objections against "far away", now I would like you to focus on "Earth, 2019".
Do you think, there are "Magic Schools" on earth (or spiritual schools in the widest sense; good /evil), like Ataegina, including "magic" skills?

Lets say, a school for human-like, other beings might be more probably on other planets.

Very interesting ....
May you carry out this "study about pineal gland"?
I am a spiritual student and a spiritual medium. In Brazil, where I was born, there are many spirits of ancient indigenous peoples, ancient African peoples, ancient aliens and elementals. We can not see them with human eyes because the Universe has some laws and rules, but one day, when the human race became more evolved, it will be possible for us to see all of them. Xamanism (An ancient indigenous magic knownledge), for example, is some kind of magic ways studys.

As for the pineal gland, it is located in the central part of the human brain and has apatite crystals, which serve as a kind of internet antenna between the physical and spiritual plane. Make your searchs to find out.

Experiencing something new almost magical sure look the gravity for example if an another planet has lesser gravity our body capable jumping 2-3 m or with ease or simpli look the greek fire when fire burn on water something that thougth to be impossible back then.

If you think it as makeing fire in your fist or raising the dead, teleport well.. galaxi is pretty damn large so i bet that there are such thing due of differint minerals animals or plant or composition of the air. Or species that are capable such thing.

So yes that more than possible but to them such abilitys come naturally like breating to us part of our being do it effortlestly even in sleap. So to them it not magical but simple everyday. We are to same to them perhaps they cant dream so it sound magical to them but not to us. Magic not exist, not yet... it will born at the moment when the two different race meet.
Excellent explanation! I would just like to add that each of us is a consciousness and (in a picturesque way of explaining) a computer, with hardware and software. That is, the physical body is the hardware and the consciousness the software. Therefore, anything can be downloaded or uploaded from us. However, the human body has its limitations and is not yet evolved enough to support certain types of downloads, because some things are above the level that the human body can handle.

ROLO started a great Philosophic topic. AlienEDM's definition is close, IE: "magic is energy, so magic is science." that is Like Clark's definition, which I think is closer to the truth, "Any sufficiently advanced science is the same thing as Magic." This would be true for any beings not 'advanced' (like us?) So magic becomes something we don't understand the workings of.

Is magic possible here on earth today? Yes, if you don't know (or refuse to believe) how something works or exists. Take "telepathy." If you believe that "the mind is what the brain does." because everything is physical matter, then Telepathy is impossible and doesn't exist. The problem is, I've witnessed incidents. Historian's have reported it (see the last page of "Killing Patton.) So, rather than have modern physics upset, most intellectuals refuse to admit telepathy exists.

But does it require something like "parallel universes/dimensions where anything is possible," as Kthulian suggests? As a Philosophic Engineer, I say, No. All it requires is to understand that the mind, our consciousness, You and I, are "an independant phenomenon separate from our brain" and that our consciousness, exists in or has access to a virtual realm or plane of existence. BUT this virtual realm is NOT a parallel universe/dimension, it is a part of the one and only Universe we all share. It exists. Like 'The Force' it is connected to all living things and that is why we can have 'telepathic' communications, 'near death experiences' and more.

AlienEDM's description of our mind being software and the brain the hardware is close to what I've discovered. My model is more like the bridge of the USS Enterprise. WE're not 'software', we're 'Spirits In Command' of a star ship who's crew communicate to us through senses and feelings. But We make the decisions.

All this is fascinating and a deep subject. I am currently working on a book to give simple commonsense answers to Lifes most fundamental questions to make sense of this crazy world we live in.

Magic? Spirits? Virtual Realm of Reality? Telepathy? Post Death Messages/Communication? anything is possible IF and ONLY IF it does not violate the existing rules of the Universe ALL OF WHICH we do NOT know. However, the ones we DO know, restrict many dreams/wishes. Teleportation (via Star Trek) requires VAST amounts of Energy to the degree making it, if not impossible, rediculously inefficient. A space shuttle down to a planet is orders of magnitude more inexpensive in terms of energy.

SO, thanks for the thinking guys, Remember, "Everything Costs" in this Universe and keep learning those Universal rules and you'll make magic possible yet! :)

The truth is how we believe it. Keep in mind that a name is just a name: I call it "consciousness", you can call it "spirit" and another person can call it "soul" ... And in context, they are the same thing. When I say that we are hardware and software it is because there is no conception which we can use to make an analogy of the joining of the material body and the spirit.

I don't know whether or not you have any interest in tabletop RPGs, but White Wolf had an interesting setting called Mage: the Ascension. If you haven't heard of it, the basic concept is that some humans have the potential to control universal forces to varying degrees. The part of the game that's relevant to this (and I am simplifying a lot here) is that each mage has a style (like magic circles, high technology, artistic expression, martial arts, religious ceremony, and many more) and each mage thinks that the other ones have it all wrong and that only their style really knows how magic works. If you look at it that way, it changes the question somewhat. Is the concept of telepathy a greater form of magic than, say, the Bible (which affects the lives of millions on a daily basis) or the polio vaccine (which has saved more people than any fantasy healer)?

There is something called "established science", which is 100% materialistic (only matter exists) and based on Newton (1727). The frame of this is expanding (slowly).

Polio vaccine - although called a "wonder of science" - is still materialistic (there is stuff). Homeopathy is "magic", so it cannot exist ;) (no stuff). >I am cynic<

Then there are areas and scientists who research on the borders of this frame (or even beyond). Like in quantum physics. Good example is "The Field" by Lynne McTaggert (she describes, that ordinary ppl can influence yesterdays experiments!). Materialists fight them of course.

The bible is a book, that means thoughts. Thoughts affect the minds. But when there is not enough inner strength (life force), then "wonders" will not happen (prayers will not be listened!). Because of this, the churches tell the believers, that wonders (like Jesus did) stopped to happen historically after the last chapter of the new testament. Wonders after that can only come from devil and ppl doing wonders have to be burned. (!)

Telepathy is a normal thing inside the widened view of the universal science of nature. Immaterial phenomena are part of these universal laws, like: "Everything what exists is connected, is ONE. Separation is illusion (=a very resticted view on things)". There is also telepathy with plants (P.Tomkins), stones …

My question now is: If you look at the school-subjects which are teached in Ataegina and used in battles. Do you think they might happen in our world?
I am curious about your opinions ... :)

What the hell is happening here? I knew that Ataegina fans were special and didn't came here just for the porn and that's why I care so much about the other aspects in the game. With that being said I would like to talk a little about what is being debated here.

I see magic as something subjective, let's say that you are able to travel through time/dimensions and you bring a simple lighter to the year 200 B.C, you make fire with your hands, it's magic for those who don't understand how it works, you see a massive spaceship in the sky, you say it's Gods work, but it's probably another more advanced race, you try to shoot them with bullets and missiles, but they have a force field or magnectic field, that's also magic. Technology is magic, is it the only kind of magic you ask me, no... Well, I believe it's not, not until it can be explained at least. How can some children remember things that happened 50 years ago? How can some people feel that someone they care are in danger even when 1000 miles away? <- (this one has happened to me) There are so much unexplained things, that to assume that you know how things work just makes you more stupid, and when people say stuff like God exists or God doesn't exist, or my religion is the right one, just makes them stupid and close minded, if a day comes when we understand how the universe really works, we will see how dumb and stupid we were.

PS: With all this stuff we are talking I may be compeled to make a game about this kind of thoughts in the future

Yeah! I am looking for WARP signature as well.:);)
I believe that there isn't one, maybe I'll make one myself sometime ;)

I agree that technique and science which ppl do not understand is
1. either not existent (materialists)
2. or magic (dumb ppl).

An UFO that is able to go sharp 90° turns in a fraction of a second cannot exist, because this is not within the frame of gravitational laws. It must be an aurora borealis, or most probably, someone is just lying. And "proofs" have to be closed away (for peace of mind, at least for the mind of the commoners).

If we are open minded and intelligent, we would NOT say that this UFO is using magic, but we would say, it is (still materialistic) science and uses techniques what we do not yet understand in the moment.

Therefore I want to distinguish between technique (material science) on the on hand and magic on the other.

I want to focus here more on "real magic" and spiritual forces /skills.
A being uses the skills of the mind /willpower /life force /aura … to see things /to change things /to create things /whatever …. Totally without any material technique (understandable or not).

Well that's something we could debate forever, I wil only talk about what I experienced, I've met someone that could project energy(heat) from his hands, I could not believe it at first but I could feel his hands on me and he was not ever near me. You could say it's just mental you could say it's real power I cannot explain so I won't even try.
Guy like this one -> <- is this the real deal? Is it a hoax? You have another example on Stan Lee Superhumans -> <- I guess it up for debate

Oh I see, placebo. Thats an interesting theme.

And when ppl have faith in a doctor or in a "philippine healer" or whatever, then the placebo effect and the >active substance< effect />real power effect of the healer< add themselves into the same direction. So placebo is always a part of any process, and often not the weakest.

To the question, if the mage skills used in Ataegina are existent in our present world:
(acording to my very personal knowing and experiencing!)

Let's start with the skills used in Battles:

Battle magic: Frost - Flames - Shock - Fireball
Yes these are materialized and controlled elements, so with enough "inner strength" it can be done.

Illusion: : Fear - Darkness

Healing
Energy dominates matter. So if the "inner picture" of the other person being healthy is strong enough, health will materialize.

Mysticism: Force wall - Push -
Energy can push and block matter.

Telekinesis:

Summoning

Necromancy: Curse

Usually a mage has his limited amount of force he can use within a certain time. So he is careful not to waste any energy.

I mentioned that I had some intense experiences after playing Ataegina the first time. I wonder, if someone else watched something similar.

Playing it I was so fascinated that I went through to the end (until 4 a.m.). Then still reading an hour in the forum. Sleeping, and when I woke up few hours later, my whole body was shaking, every cell vibrating. A real physical experience (and also psychical of course). Memories came.

The next 5 nights I had very strong dreams concerning the school in Ataegina. It was about visiting such a mage school myself and studying. Everything felt such familiar to me.

That's pretty intense, and I wasn't planning to cause that to anyone by making the game, still it kind of makes me feel proud that something I made has that kind of power on some people.

I think I'll create a discord server for this community, I'm always looking for new ideas and most of you seem interesting people to talk to, what do you guys think?

Hey Kthulian, one cannot plan such a thing, one can only bring out, what is inside. You have a lot inside, and you are able to bring it out perfectly (what is not granted). Go on ...

To the question, if the mage skills used in Ataegina are existent in our present world:
What do you guys think about other magic skills, ppl did in Ataegina?
Like the ones students did during their last exam?
e.g. invisibility.
or the "power spell", when the girl lifts a ton of stone?
or shapeshifting?

Hey Kthulian

Something's been bugging me for a few versions and I think maybe it'd be a good idea for you to do something with it:

Why is he still wearing his burlap sack student robe? The dude has graduated and is now Mage-ing it up around the countryside, it's about time for some threads that represent his status, no?
