Am I a joke to you?!
Okay actually true since I don't have the ownership of the thread, and it's not my profile highlighted at the top of the post.
First and foremost everyone has a right for their own opinion and judgement, because there are plenty of reasons to be doubtful, especially knowing the pattern behind most of the projects of such caliber. And although from the getgo comments like"this is gonna get abandoned, another one, curse gonna claim, etc" were hurting me, i never went out of my way to argue with people about it, and unfortunately they were right to doubt, i've failed and keep failing while trying to deliver not just something, but something of value and quality.
To address the account behind the forum posts on f95. We were developing this project together with my friend, and it was a development hell shit fest(kinda still is). Initially the plan for the project was to start in Unity cause he is proficient with that engine and my part was supposed to be doing animations. The unity route failed mostly because of my own ambition, i was not satisfied with the way it looked, mainly form graphics stand point, and overtime it became apparent to me that my friend doesn't really take it seriously, i had to learn from the ground up all the basics of importing and setting up materials, playing back my stuff from blender(was kinda tough considering that i opened the software first time ever). I'm blaming him here not because of trying to divert blame,(I'm a major fuckup myself) but because the core idea and incentive to build this was his, but he eventually pivoted away. This is where some comments from me about not knowing anything about starfox lore might resurface, because for me, I liked Krystal as a character(played the og flash game), but not to the point as some people, my progression about her was, (porn>this project>w8 she is actually has a big fandom behind her???). So i was pissed and we had a major fallout, and barely spoke, then reconciled after a few months and I forced us to go in unreal. The deal was somewhat the same, but it was even playing field for both of us in terms of who does what in the project, yet again I was supposed to animate and do the visuals, and he was up for coding. And it only went downhill from there, he threw tantrums about how blueprints are ass and he doesn't want to do it, and I stepped up, because for me there were two choices, either step up and take it onto myself, or quit. After coding failed, he went dealing with material graphs, and after a few attempts at messing with stuff there, he failed again. I had to run around and fix mistakes, double check everything he does(mind you that I'm at that point as green as he is). So at the end of it all he ended up doing environment design, placing props mainly, and basically we ended up splitting tasks like this, he does environment I do everything else. When we published the project here almost a year and a half ago, there were a few quirks to it still, since i can't register and receive money from sub star nor patreon, paypal. He became responsible for handling that side of the deal, and because I thought that it might be a good idea to split our responsibilities a bit further he was the person responsible for handling this forum's account, also twitter. And so this is why the "main" account doesn't post anything here.
The second part, about why there are no updates on substar. Mostly you can say that i'm retarded, because even our supporters left comments like "share something, post something it will be better this way people will know that project is not dead". But I just can't post anything that is not the actual update(the latest post is an exception). And i don't want to whine like a bitch "oh look at me my life is so hard, so another delay, or smth" i saw it so many times from other devs and no, just no. I have plenty of shit to tell, but talking about this, first it is unrelated to the project, second i don't want to provoke pity. My grand father died from cancer last september, my mom went through two major pelvic surgeries that left her crippled, i live in a country where i can't even receive payment cause most worldwide payment processors here work in send only mode, i barely make my ends meet, thankfully prices for groceries and bills are relatively cheap, benefit of living in a shithole i guess. But that’s besides the point. I’m still grateful to everyone who is/was supporting the project, and I'm sorry for failing you and that it takes so long.
About current progress, well, most of the stuff that took most of the time for me was relearning and fighting unreal’s animation pipeline(i’m still figuring it out). Most of the visible performance passes and system refactorings that I was doing are thankfully done.
I hope it answers some of your questions.
