VN - Ren'Py - Bad Memories [v0.9.1] [recreation]

Great renders, bad writing. Everything about the story seems cheap, cliché and shitty:

-The MC supposedly hates and is traumatized by the stepmom, but what does he/she do the first thing arriving back home? Ogle the step-mom.
- "Female protagonist" is a simple asset swap. The MCs internal dialogue remains that of a creepy and horny 13 year old boy. "Hehehe" is an oft-repeated line.
- The game has sexual assault as a cutesy game mechanic. Just... eugh.
- The MC's step-sister is a traumatized mute girl who has apparently spent all those years away lusting after the MC and wouldn't you know it, she just has to grind herself against the MC's leg while he/she sleeps.

And that's only my first 30 minutes with the game. Something tells me it'll get even creepier down the line. Oh well...

I love this game. The rating system on the site doesn't allow to put 4.5, but this is how I rate it.

Beautiful and, if I may say so, realistic renders. Awesome character models. Decent animation of sex scenes.

The plot is interesting and not the most ordinary, I mean, it's hard to say anything specific right now. Also I love that the main character has an unusual relationship with her family.

The mc is not a crying bitch who broke down after a difficult childhood. She (I play as a Jill, so she's mc for me) is an adult, confident woman who has found a place for herself in life, leaving her stepmother, who was not the best example for her.

And here I want to note -0.4 in the rating of the game. Despite the only mention at the very beginning from Jill herself that she is a lesbian and it will be difficult for the girls in the house to understand what she considers them attractive, the rest of the time it looks like all women are lesbian or bisexual. Almost every one of them flirts with Jill as if it says she's a lesbian on her forehead. Example: Her new boss openly declares that he is not interested in his secretary and that Jill may hit on her. I also saw a couple of renders showing the arms or legs of the male protagonist, but it mostly bugs so it's not critical.
All this led me to the conclusion that the game was created for the male protagonist, and Jill was just a replacement for the male model. It's a little frustrating but doesn't kill the gameplay.
The rest -0.1 is Ellie. I'm sorry, but despite everyone's love for her, she annoys me a little at least at this stage of the plot.

I think this is one of the best games i ever played and I highly recommend it.

I've been playing since v0.3 and, after some time away from my VN life, I'm playing v0.6 just to remember how much I fucking love this game. Considering the games I've played around here, it's my favorite. The plot (there is a plot, I know, incredible) is a simple and nice mystery, some hints of trauma and a touch of noir. Good shit. It's really satisfactory how recreation is conducting this orchestra of messes that are his characters. Ellie is such a cute mess, no talk, only mischievous cuteness. Ada is the little minx, but only needs some headpats (as does Ellie). Katherine is so fucking hot in her sub mess, I really love the subtext of con-noncon happening with her and the dom/sub relationship we are developing. Rachel is the hot milf and I don't know what to think yet. She seems sweet, but there's too much mystery around her (even though I think mc is creating a misunderstanding). Looking forward for more Hannah (so adorable), Steph and the two porn actresses. And Maggy, because she blueballed the fuck out of me. The renders are top-notch and have a recognizable style that I love. Maybe some more pleasure faces / o-faces for the girls? The ones already in there are amazing. And more fluid sex scenes (Or maybe my notebook is shit, it's probably that). Simple, straightforward and well executed. Would totally recommend. 10/10.

Story is decent enough, starting with plot development (rarely found in these games). Then they have plot development and character development (also rarely found). The characters are both diverse and hot (Ellie is a young looking 18 so it's ok). It takes a while to get to sex scenes, but when they do the animation is fantastic.

I'm still waiting to get past the tease of Rachel and finally manipulating her under the influence and then doing her every which way. I'm also looking forward to doing both Hannah and Steph - both with and without her glasses.

Biggest downside is that the game isn't finished. I rarely start a game that isn't done just in case it ends up abandoned. I pray that folks support the developer so that will not be the case.

Artwork is OK (Ellies face is a bit scary, though).

Writing is nothing special (the only memorable aspect was that ever second sentence or so ends with "He He", which got on my nerves after a while)

Some characters are actually kind of nice and/or interesting (only MC is god awful. Oh well.)

Story is .. well kind of OK, but I got an unpleasant vibe from the seemingly unavoidable quasi-rape / assault / asshole aspects. It starts with the seemingly unavoidable molestation of a drugged Rachel, you don't interfere when somebody is made drunk without their knowledge (two persons, one might actually be a recovering alcoholic?!, the other one you happily let drive away drunk), and goes on from there. You get a game over if you do not want to get molested in your sleep by your mentally challenged sister (who looks like a ten year old zombie-pippi-longstocking, btw). MC is an asshole, and the story does not give enough explanation / excuse for such behavior, and is not interesting enough that I could enjoy it despite such behavior....

Good game! Interesting characters and Rachel is hot! Grammar could use a clean up but a good game nonetheless. The story is entertaining. Not sure about 'molesting' Katie. This could have been handled better. Perhaps press forward on a hunch or something of the sort. Still it is a game and I was entertained!

The concept and story has potential, but the dialogue needs a lot of work. There are problems with grammar, and even when the grammar is technically correct, it feels really awkward and unnatural. A good editor fluent in English could probably improve things immensely.

This is probably one of the best games I've played on here (v0.6). The renders are amazing. The writing is really good and keeps some mystery that intrigues you further. The pace is pretty good. You don't have to jump through a bunch of hoops and play the 'what time do I have to be in what place' game that other games suffer from. I've really enjoyed this game.

The dialogue and characters in this game are terrible. No one acts like a functioning human. Sounds like it was written by someone who has never had a conversation with another person before. the story I guess is cool but none of the characters are relatable in any way. I played as a guy only but i feel like the game would still be worse if the MC was a girl. The only reason to play this game is to fuck the silent little sister. But the graphics are not good enough to play the game just for that reason. In conclusion this game is not fun, realistic, hot, or at all worth playing.

The only Bad Memories this left are the ones on me.

Firstly this vn expects you to molest your sister's therapist Katherine, you have the option to say no but the vn registers that you did. I found this out after having confronted Katherine (after she knocked out her ex) and the scene plays exactly the same regardless if you chose to molest her on either occasions or not (the dialogue mentions you molesting her even when you haven't etc etc).

Later on you realise that Katherine was the girl you saved from being raped. So not only does this girl feel indebted to you, but most probably infatuated and explains why she didn't knock you the fuck out when you molested her. That didn't make me feel crappy at all.

Another great thing happens when you wake up to being sexually assaulted by your sister but should you tell her to stop you receive a game over because you hurt her feelings... OK.

So your father's ex Rachel is taking an experimental drug that has a side effect of making her very susceptible to suggestions while also not being able to remember anything the next day. Obviously, the mc will use this to their advantage but you find out you're not the only one as its implied your sisters best friend Jada has also been abusing her (she knows about the drugs and finding her leaving Rachel's bedroom during the hour she's drugged up... ). Glad I convinced Rachel to let her stay at the house for a while.

I could go on but I think I made my point.

Katherine and Rachel are hot so I'll give this 2 stars for them.

Edit: after playing a plethora of awful vn's since this review (many highly rated), I think it's only fair to add an extra star.

I gonna try my best to rate this game according to my review.

Story 3/5 - It is not very intresting and not many intresting choices but it does keep you going. Sometimes the dialogues are different regarding the choices you made which doesnt mention in the next dialogue from your choice.

Renders/animations = 4/5 - they are better and ejoyable looks decent.

The only reason the I gave this game 4 star is because of the character Ellie she is the best and because of the animations. Animations are awesome too

There's something about Bad Memories that keeps me coming back to it again and again. If I had some money coming in I'd be passing some of it along to the dev. But I don't, so I can't. Sorry.

You can play as a male or female with appropriate changes to the scenes and dialogue, though it doesn't seem to change the actual story a great deal. The characters are all interesting and quite beautiful (especially Ellie who has the virtue of being almost totally silent!) I don't think there's a single character in the game that I didn't like after the first playthrough when the story had progressed a little.

A lot of effort has been put into this one, I think. From the character's expressions to their posing and the backgrounds and the individual stories for the characters. All looks good to me. Very good, in fact.

Bad Memories v0.6 Story is decent, action scenes are pretty good. Only negative is that it seems to be a bit "on rails" as far as decisions. Still excited to see where it all gets to in the end. Lots of hot girls to explore.

Incest aside, this is a solid game, and one of two games that I ignore said tag and keep playing; Bone Tales The Manor is the other game. The story is decent and does a good job of hooking the player, my opinion. The characters are interesting, likeable, and well written. The animations are very smooth and fluid with just the right angles. The MC can be a bit annoying at times, but that doesn't hurt the rating in the least.

Fun game, worth a playthrough.

This is a really good and cute game. Story is fit for the plot. Renders and girls are beautiful. Sandbox part of the game is comfortable. Seems like choices are matters. Lewd scenes are hot and arousing.

This game is an odd one, on one hand it has a relatable protagonist with family strife with his not mother (Racheal) on the other hand it has some of the worst supproting characters I have ever seen in one of these games, from the weird mute Chucky looking girl. (I do mean girl, she looks like she is 14 years old tops, Its creepy) to the most unlikable character of all her b!tchy tutor, who is just permanently on the rag & you're supposed to want to do this awful woman, with her resting b!tch face?

Crazy thing is I find myself drawn into the story with the Racheal character, she seems more layered than the rest, obviously she's more interesting than the jailbait mute living with you, but she actually has a lot of character depth compared to all of them even the protagonist himself.

Pros
-Great animations (At least for the Racheal character anyway)
-Good Story
-Protagonist has depth

Cons
-Bulk of the supporting NPC's are unlikable save for 2 (Protag & Racheal)
-TOO MUCH emphasis is placed on Ellie & her creepy dead eyes lusting for the protagonist
-There is some borderline assault scenes in the game that ain't my cup of tea

One of the most interesting stories I've seen in any of these games! The reluctant prodigal return, the slow unveiling of the story behind it, the trauma of his, well, what is she? still to be determined, the slow build of lust, trust, the ravages of desire withheld & the attendant anticipation, the promises of action beyond the original intimate group, but I will come back to the most important factor, the story, character building & development, always a mystery in the background waiting to be discovered. Uncompleted it is too short, but I suspect that even the full game will leave its advocates panting for more.

Bad Memmories is absolutely one of my favorite games I have found via f95zone, I have been both playing and backing this title since it first dropped. Its odd that I have not until now reviewed the title, or is it? In fact I only just figured out how to review titles on f95 so there is that.

Anyway Rec has created a fantastic story here, the game mixes well Narrative and Sandbox aspects. With stunning renders done in Daz studio, with lots of custom hand made content.



Game Play:

Really good, as said above the game mixes narrative driven and sandbox play in a nice way. The Sandbox aspect never leaves you feeling lost but also doesn’t feel like your choices in sandbox really drive anything so its more an illusion of control. for the most part the game feels like an interactive story game with Sandboxy elements.

Story:

The story is both original and compelling. With the characters being interesting, and the plot has me waiting for each new release to find out what’s going to happen next. So far there are a lot of unanswered questions, and many questions with their answers only hinted at.

Renders;

A++ Rec’s girls are lovely and beautify lit, and range from slightly loli to milf. Scene framing is excellent. Animated segments are outstanding, however there are no secondary animations during dialog

H Scenes:

Are for the most apart non-interactive, but hot and stunningly rendered. The Characters and story really push my buttons.

Backing:

Ok I have been backing this one since it began, it’s the only title I have done so for. Though Rec’s release rate is sometimes slow and or chaotic. When rec drops, it’s usually it has been worth the wait.

This game is awesome, the story so far is really great, the characters are fun, the renders are amazing, the only bad thing is that the Dev can't become 4 people and have 4 supercomputers to make both their games faster, but for real Rec, so far this game is really good, I do have some questions that maybe will change this rating in the future, but so far this is one of my favorites, and I'll be following its progress.
