RaiOhGar (the previous work from GapTax) was great. Thus, I came into this game thinking that they'd either expand upon previous concepts, or at the very least, keep them.
Instead, I come into Battle Armor Sorgante to find they've actually cut ideas and systems from RaiOhGar, and changed some.
First off, let's get both art and sound out of the way. Sound in this game is made by Shade (and if you don't know him you're really missing out) so that's that; it's really good. For the art, GapTax hasn't reused anything from past success RaiOhGar, and while there are several variations/reused CGs within their own routes as the game goes on, there are none that cross routes. That aside, the art itself is really good too, so both of these are solid points for Sorgante.
The translation itself is not great, but it is good. There is only one box that wasn't translated in the entire game, but there are also several other boxes that have pronoun errors and other minor issues, which leads me to believe this is sort of a heavily edited MTL; or, at least, the human equivalent, which might be a fan translating this with heavy help from google translate or similar. It's still a good translation, but it falls short at times.
Lastly then, we come to the gameplay itself. The combat is boring, but it's fast and is skippable past the first route completion, so let's not dwell on that too much.
When it comes to the corruption of the heroine and how to achieve HCGs though, Sorgante felt really flat for me. In RaiOhGar, you could alter whether you're playing with Male MC or FeMC, which meant you could both only catch glimpses of what was happening, as well as actually be in the shoes of the FeMC and accompany her through the process of corruption, making the HCGs feel more "attuned" to the story. In Sorgante, you simply walk around the map and you can't even really interact with the FeMC much; there's very few scenes where you hear sounds, see her back or her face at best, but most of the time they're fucking behind 5 layers of steel reinforced concrete walls and the Male MC is entirely oblivious; upon entering the room, the HCG scene is activated in the recollection room. Not only that, but when I tried playing without looking at the recollection room, most of the actual fun in the game came from looking at the personal info tab of the menu, instead of anything in the game itself. I don't like having to depend on a recollection room to get HCGs as I feel that makes the HCG "disconnected" from the game in a way and ruins gameflow, so this was a sore miss for me.
Since you can't control FeMC and the Male MC is also entirely oblivious, corruption also feels a bit weird. FeMC will attempt to pretend everything is fine, so you can go from her unwillingly sucking a guy off in the operation camera to complete corruption love declarations from one mission to another. Not only that, but the complete corruption also happens at the very end of any of the routes, which feels a bit annoying.
Furthermore, the map is large, but unlike RaiOhGar there are no random events with random people that happen as "corruption" increases; it's the guys in the route and that's it. This makes the map feel rather devoid of life and entirely useless as you walk around to one of the 3 areas to unlock your HCG in the recollection room and then back into the military base to do the boring combat and then repeat. This, paired with the fact the combat itself is a bit boring, makes for the game to be mindnumbingly bad if you're not stopping to read the HCGs as you unlock them.
Compounding on this, there's a distinct lack of variance in the H content (it's mostly vaginal sex with some cosplay sex in every route); the heroine has a "Body Development" sex stat in her personal info but in no route does Mouth go over 50%, for example. It's essentially worthless. It's just fluff text. This also compounds into the ending, where sometimes it feels as if the MC should have noticed or realized or broken up or something, but nothing really happens. It's just... there.
That aside, the change in the way to view the HCGs definitely does play more heavily into the NTR aspect of the game, so it might be a positive change to some; NTR-wise this game feels quite a lot better than RaiOhGar, perhaps precisely because of all these changes, but it does feel a bit worse as a 'corruption' game, which is what I prefer.
