Tournament: A tournament might be an option too. I'm thinking of adding some challenges down the road, so character growth makes more sense, but the game will mostly stay a sandbox, with no actual story. I might decide to work on a new game with a story later down the road.Something like a tournament mod, simple old MK style.
As nice as it is, ATM there's little to do. Even your input is occasional.
I'd also didn't notice I can zoom in for a better look at the action.
Little to do: The input should probably not be just occasional, as in not only selecting the next move, but keeping and eye on the effort bar at the bottom and making adjustments to your effort per action, as necessary (using the mouse wheel). Managing the effort can be quite a strategic challenge, depending on game difficulty.
Zoom - in the latest versions available on Patreon there are now zoom buttons available on the right had side of the screen (see that screenshot above).
