VN - Ren'Py - Completed - Become a Rock Star [v1.01] [Mr Jet]

(Note: This review contains spoilers.)

This is a well-above average game with some serious flaws. But the flaws can mostly be fixed with some editing, if the game creator wants.

The good:

1) The women in this game are really gorgeous.

2) The renders of the characters are great. I sometimes stopped just to look at how nice the skin textures looked in close-up.

3) The animations are exceptionally well done. The hand-jobs were especially nice - the skin is shown sliding a tiny bit up and down with the woman's hand, something I don't recall ever seeing in any other game's hand job animation, and it makes it look much more real.

4) This is a matter of taste. But if you find ridiculously huge boobs and monstrously huge cocks a turn-off, like I do, then you'll be really happy with the human-proportioned character designs in this game.

5) Two of the characters - Lisa, the lead singer of your band, and Selina, a red-headed neighbor - are especially nicely written, and likable as people. That's particularly surprising with Selina, who at first seems like a typical "I have no character beyond being someone for the MC to fuck" character, but turns out to be more.

I honestly began to feel a little guilty about the way I was guiding the MC to constantly cheat on Lisa. And that I was cheating on Selina with Selina's mother. (But it's a porn game, after all.)

The bad:

1) There's a disturbing scene with Marie, a girl you party with after a concert, in which she clearly doesn't want to have sex with the MC but the MC tries to bully her into it. It's not actually a rape scene - he eventually relents, and Marie offers him a hand job instead - but it's way too close, and it left me feeling shitty.

And the worst thing is, there's no way to avoid it. There's no hint that a near-rape scene is coming until you're actually in the scene. And there's no way to avoid it, once you're in the scene, other than quitting the game. Game developer, if you're reading this: Please add a "It looks like you're not into this, Marie. That's totally fine - we don't have to do anything. Let's just go back downstairs to the party and have a nice time" option to this scene!

(If you want to avoid the scene, then you can skip partying with Marie and Eva by going onto the bus with Lisa instead. Or, if you go to the party, stick to Eva like glue and avoid ever being alone with Marie. The good news is, Eva WANTS to have sex with you.)

2) The MILF looks 25 years old. 30 at the oldest. And she has an adult daughter.

3) There's an ongoing plot about the MC trying to build his career as a rock star despite his evil father's machinations, and it's very boring, and it goes on and on and on and on. It feels like a story a 12 year old makes up - "I'm going to form a rock band, and we're an instant hit, and everyone loves us," etc etc.

Sit down and edit all of these sequences! At least half of the dialog having to do with the evil dad and the rock career could be taken out without losing anything. And the game will be much better for it.

On the whole, a much-better-than-average game.

This was a very entertaining and cool game to play.

I loved the little Rock Star-esque minigames, I truly enjoyed the characters and writing. Sure, some of it was very predictable, but who cares?

It is a cool little game with memorable moments and characters (a tribute to the overall writing) and I look forward to more.

Lots of paths, lots of girls great renders flowing story and character development. You have a lot of freedom to chase girl/girls you want but cheating on Lisa tracked(possibly include other love interests later). Some of animations have to big a range of movement with to few renders and since using very basic loops it looks a bit off though overall the render quality makes up for it.

The real issue I had was with the common writing on every path. Instead of been neutral its decidedly creepy, perverted and predatory. MC also constantly leering and making inane comments about the girls and telling us in internal monologues how sexy they look and how much he wants a piece of them. It not only clashes badly with good paths its a waste of time as we have the pictures in front of us.

If this is an early stage of the game development, I gotta give props to the dev. This is an awesome game and what amuses me is the fact that all relationships have a great pace all along the game. The writing is very good, as well as the characters that are very arousing and sexy. It's been a while I've not seen such a game with this potential to become one of the greatest ones I've played so far. Keep up the awesome job, Mr Jet!

The renders are top quality and the same can also be said about the sex scenes. Couple that with a nice story and you already have a good Ren'py game,

But what really makes BEcome A Rock Star stand apart from other visual novels is how everyone can have their own relationship paths as the game progress.

For exemple in my game after my choices:

John, the protagonist, was with Selina, the shy woman turned wild. Meanwhile her mother Rosa also has her eyes on the protagonist body.
Jade and Lisa looked really nice together, they are a cute couple. ♥
Jacob with the "wonder sisters" Aki and Maki. It is really umcommon to see a game where the friend gets laid too.

And there is also Jane thirsting for John with some help from Julia, their best friend and sister. And i would not be surprise if Nicole also enter the fray in the future.

MrJet has my respect for daring to flesh out everyone's life like that.

Good Points
+ Renders looks really good and have amazing quality. Indoor and Outdoor renders looks detailed and good aswell.
+ Characrer drawings looks good and girls are hot!
+ Animated sex scenes has realy good quality, physics and they are maked very soft (High FPS).
+ Sex scenes has lots of options, angles and animations. Kisses, touching, caress etc... All of them has own animations. And this feels realy good.
+ Story is well written, promising and realy cool!
+ DEV makes realy good updates and give us good amount of content always and I appriacate this.

Bad Points
- DEV's head little bit mixed about content I gues. He gave us sister nude scene but same time he says we dont get incest in game. Not problem not all games need incest or like this fetish's but if you give us nude sister scene well pretty much everyone will be wait scene with her. So DEV need make scenes more logical. And he is making this so I dont cut his star for this but still this is little bit bad point.

I love this game realy. Story, renders, animations... Almost everything about this game is amazing. And this is why I will give this game 5 star! Keep it good work!

(( As of October 2020.. I have seen a lot of improvement in the story based on my earlier review, and have decided that the game is worthy of a 3.5 stars..so there goes...Keep up the good work))

First of all , credits to the team for the amazing improvement in the renders and animation.. they're amazing
Secondly, The story is absolutely way below average...Its kinda Bland and boring..Most of the characters are not that interesting. There is absolutely no tease and Zero effort from the MC in acquiring the girls..and its just cheap sex . The game just throws girls in your face like " here, have it...on the house".

As of v0.4, I say 8.5/10

I really enjoyed this game, from the engaging story and fluid plot to the interesting and beautiful cast of characters. The game is a delight to play and it's pretty fun to see what happens next.

The only issues I had with the game was hidden stat system and the whole serious relationship option early on with one of the key (if not the key) female leads. I found the serious relationship introduced early on to be a nice change of pace- problem was it is only presented clearly to a character i don't prefer and seems to be a hidden option for others.

The reason this a big deal is because as the player you don't have full information on what choices you are making- merely just reacting to the game. Sure this is solved with a guide, but even still, it's hard to know how many points you have and with whom.

Add on the fact that you have a Jane, Jade, Julia, Jessica, Jacob and I think a mention of an Aunt Jane, and it gets really confusing.

Another thing that bugged me was the abstract way money was treated. The game makes a big deal of what the MC doesn't have access to anymore, but it never seems to drive home what he isn't able to do. He still goes to fancy dinners, never really budgets, and has free time to do whatever. Sure he has to work, but it is sporactic at best.

But my issues are small potatoes to what was a wonderful experience. Hopefully moving forward, the plot divides up so people can get the content they want instead of having to go through it all.

Oh and I'm super excited to see the rest of the cast in the upcoming updates!

I love this game! It's one of my fave games and has a permanent spot in my top 5.
Love the art style, character look beautiful- they could be models irl. The story is engaging and it was fun exploring the different choices you could make.

Update: I've just finished 0.45, I like how the story has progressed with Selina. That one conversation was a huge twist.

Umm one thing that I feel is missing out is how we've never returned to the club we work at. It'd be cool to have a few more scenes with Anna. Maybe you could include a sequence where the bouncer dude has figured out that we've slept with Anna he wants beef.

Funny considering that Become a Rock Star is the first project from Mr Jet.
Simply amazing..

The story is pretty cool and this has some pretty interesting decissions you will have to take.. I enjoy a lot when a game includes some important choices that could affect with your progression/relationship with other characters.
The characters.. What to say about the characters of this game..
They are simply gorgoeus! They all really look like supermodels
But the atractive is not all, they are also quite well writen and are charismatic.

The animations for this one are super hot aswell..
You'll get to see some notable progression with the animations through the episodes Mr Jet has been working his ass very hard for giving us the best experiencie possible.

Summarizing.. This is a very attractive new game & proposal for the adult genre!
And also comment that this talented dev is worth to support and deserve all the love, feedback & help possible

I like how this game is coming along it actually has a story that isn't all over the place and I hope the devs keep up this up. The graphics and animation are clean and clear. I just hope it stays the way it is now.

Beautiful refreshing game about a small group of young musicians. Renders are exceptional quality. All right ingredients are there - love, sex, drama, enjoying life and much more! I highly recommend this game to everyone!

What can be said about this, except - Sad, bad and dreadfull.
Forced and unintersting story + dislikable characters = disaster. Seems like somebody tried to writte a story about topic he have no much clues about. On top of that - unavoidable content.
Some models looks nice, renders are quite acceptable, but not enough to interests one to play this game if one is not fan of cheap sex, which is there just because this is adult game and there must be some sexual content. No build up, but hey there are some boobs and some sex. Come on...
Bottom line, extract cg's, some of them are only things worth of your time from this game. Don't bother yourself with rest of it.

Plot:
It´s awesome, I like the band thing. I liked this thing in Melody and there too.

Renders and animations:

Renders and animations are so good for me. Great quality, great paced and no needs more frames like some games(but more games than it should be).


Characters:
All characters are different and i like it. There is variety, physically and mentally different.
I like how the game goes with everyone.
I like that in the future we would see at least a threesome or something like this.
I would like that u could bang your sister or your father assistant Nicole (who is not his assistant anymore) and Lisa´s roomate.
And of course a exclusive relationship with Emma, whith an optional way of spice it up like sharing her or threesome or something like that.

I think Jade remember a bit of Melissa from Acting Lessons but i guess she escaped from that terrible final update and came here looking for a good one.

Gameplay:

It´s good. Maybe a bit focused on Lisa but is good to see that would be some troubles if you fool around.


I think the game is pretty decent but we still have to wait too see it it ends in a good manner or makes a mess like other games did.

Being in an amateur Rock Band myself, I took immediate interest in this game. At the first updates, it was a fairly interesting game with only a few spelling mistakes and some other minor nuisances. But as the updates kept coming, this game became more and more competent. At this stage, [v0.4], it is a really promising game and one of my favorite ongoing games on the site, and so, I feel it deserves a review already.

Pros: Beautiful models and awesome animations; Interesting characters with distinct personalities; Intriguing plot revolving the life of a young aspiring musician and his struggles to gain independence from his tycoon father, who is obsessed in steering his son's life away from his dreams.

Cons: Persistent inconsistency regarding the main character's instrument; sometimes being called a guitar, and others, a bass, while the object is still the same (a guitar).

Note: To achieve the classic rock sound which is presented in the story, it is required for a band to have drums, one bass, and one or more guitars. So, for a group with four elements to function properly, there should be one drummer, one bassist, one or two guitarists. The vocalist could also play an instrument, whichever one you feel would be more appropriate.

A beautiful and intriguing story.

Everything about this VN is masterfully crafted. From an engaging story with a lovable cast, to renders with insane quality and smooth animations. You can feel the love and care of every single one of the pieces that make up this tale.

The female cast is insanely attractive with personalities that hook you instantly and makes you want to see more of them. From the beautiful nympho neighbor, to the sweet band members, passing by the cute boss, and ending in the unavailable sister and her simply amazing co-worker. The sheer quality of this characters makes the decision of which ones you want to focus extremely difficult.

The writing is excellent, with a simple core narrative but with a multitude of threads that allow a lot of speculation until resolved. The dialogues feel natural and easy to read, complimented with perfectly crafted renders that highlight the character state of mind.

This is the kind of VN that will be remembered and used as a standard of quality. Truly a gem.

And if you think I'm overhyping it, play it. You won't regret it. It rocks.

This game is so freaking great. The girls look hot af. The story is quite unusual if you compare it to the rest available. It's easy to keep up with the game and how it progress. The MC also is not a total asshole, another thing that is sweet about this game.

Just hope that we will be able to see more of the same quality that this game has provided us with thus far.

First time writing a review here.
A true gem. The renders are exceptionally beautiful. The only game that is on par with the graphical quality that comes to mind is Milfy City.
The other details about the game are well done as well. Background music is good, there are even moaning sound effects etc. Animations are nice, though as will probably always be with these games, seem a little robotic (still better than most, but compared to the high quality picture renders, they are not that great).
I felt that as of 0.4 there is a fair bit of content. The game will definitely not blueball you, if that is something you would be afraid of.
Finally, the writing is exceptional. The dialogues feel nice and flow well. The characters are fleshed out and it might be the first game, which made me actually feel bad about cheating on one of the girls.
Also a beautiful mother+daughter redhead combo... just this alone would make me give the game 5/5.

Truly, something of a masterpiece so far.

Almost every aspect of this game shows an uncommonly high level of competence in the production. The renders, the background music, the writing, everything that really gets you hooked on a game and makes you keep playing has been polished to a mirror like sheen. Simply put, this game is a joy to play.

That's not to say everything is perfect; some of the renders of the girls early in the game aren't on par with the later ones, but thats a small price to play. Well worth playing and spending some time with.

One of the most criminally underrated games on this site. Everything about this game is handled with perfection in mind. Amazing soundtracks coupled with stunning renders and great writing. The characters display realistic motivations. The story makes you feel truly like an upcoming indie rockstar, just starting your long journey to fame.
