Considering he needed to get the underlying tech tested (for imports and all), and he was still going to have Zoey backstory, the only thing a lack of the Interlude would have resulted in would have been no update for anything whatsoever at all this entire time, because that same "boring" story content would have been worked into the rest of the stuff anyway.

Don't be angry about the interlude, this lengthy delay was always going to happen. Be angry that DPC obviously lied about pushing for smaller, faster episodes than what he'd done prior to the bloat of episode 8.
This is naive.

The moment the Interlude was going to be a standalone release, it was obviously fleshed out to fit that choice. Had it just been 'part' of Episode 9, it would have been much shorter and less detailed.

Hello fellow DIKs, I'm trying to unlock the scene between Sage & Quinn in episode 8, yet I can't find the answer in any guide, official or otherwise. Help a maggot brother out, how can I unlock the scene?

Something I don't think all the folks talking about more updates with less content are considering...

We all love DPC and Being A DIK not just cause... well.. boobies... but also because, he tells an engaging and captivating story... with boobies. One part of story telling is... well knowing where to hit pause. Where to say, "This is the part I want to leave them hanging on." And... lets be real, DPC does that masterfully. I mean, if you have to hit pause, let it be on a spot where everyone is going to be going, "What the what? What happens next? Wait... Wait... I NEED to know! What's about to happen?!" I mean, it's one of the things that keeps bringing us back to the story of the DIKs. If DPC doesn't feel like he's in a good spot to hit pause, feels like he's in the middle of too many stories, hasn't wrapped up enough loose ends, well, he should keep going, and release the update when he feels like the story is in a good spot for it.

That's the whole damn point. I'm glad someone is pointing it out. (y)(y)

So what. He was the 2nd most popular porn game - number of patrons, I mean - on Patreon when he released episode 8. Only Summertime Saga had more patrons. Now he's the 5th-6th.

This is not the point, anyway. The point is that he TOLD that he was going to release faster and shorter updates after episode 8. He told it in the message he posted after he released episode 8.

Did it happen? Interlude happened. Episode 9 development happened. The opposite happened.

Should I care? Should I worry? Well, I just want to see the end of the story, you know. I want to know what's going to happen to MC, Josy, Maya, Sage and Jill.
But if DPC gave us 3 or 4 updates a year you wouldn't get any more story or be further along in the game than by just having this one big update this year. The story would be all over the shop.
Plus you might not get any Sage or Jill story until the 4th update of the year as all other LI's need their parts telling first.

Yes we would have had some content but we see in other games on here and from top creators its 3 month wait and then 15 minutes gameplay.

Its either 3 or 4 short updates which will have bit parts of each path, or just one path, then wait 4 months for anymore more certain LI content or one big update with a lot of story told and content for every path.

Every path is worth playing it. I have 9 different saves / different routes - at the end of Interlude ready for episode 9.

I know that but in regards to the poster I quoted faster updates won't finish the story quicker, we would just get shorter updates with bit part path stories and a few scenes.

It might work for some games, I just don't think it would work that well in this game with so many different paths and saves like you say.

I disagree, as much as I dislike the interlude because it distracts from the main plots (as I've said before I don't mind the timescales of release as I believe DPC puts out more quality and quantity in one episode than other devs put out over 5 releases in a 2 year period), there's not much in the interlude that wouldn't need to be included as flashbacks to flesh out Zoey as DPC wanted, the first scenes with Fuckface were basically included with the story told to Bella but beyond that every point of the interlude needs to be included:
  • Zoey realising on the train that Fuckface was more than just a fuckbuddy
  • Zoey gradually losing enthusiasm for surfing because she wasn't good at it
  • Zoey's artistic ability getting her the job at the tattoo parlour
  • Zoey deciding to get tattoos
  • Zoey getting close to Bret (as friends)
  • Emma getting jealous about it and goading Zoey into risque poses on the beach
  • Emma posting the pics on Rooster
  • Zoey confronting Emma and either getting revenge or setting Emma and Bret back up together.

All those plot points would need to be covered in flashbacks to take Zoey to where she is now. What else was in the interlude that wouldn't need to be covered?
I'll disagree in turn. Most of those plot points aren't particularly important. As Sheet420 said, they were added to justify the length of the Interlude. We didn't see Zoey gradually lose enthusiasm for surfing; she tried it once, sucked at it, and then we barely see her on a surfboard again. Zoey's artistic skills would have been better established via the MC's memories (in which case seeing them in action in the Interlude would at least have been a nice treat). Her strictly platonic friendship with Bret goes nowhere and Emma's jealousy comes straight out of left field. Even the big decision about how Zoey handles things with Emma feels like a questionable design choice: it's not like anyone would bat and eyelash if Zoey had a preset personality like all the other LIs.

The only thing the Interlude really *needed* to do was sell us on why Zoey left the MC and why she was returning - and IMHO it did a lousy job at those, too. She left because she was obsessed with a very shallow dream and she came back because she'd run out of money.

I care less about Zoey now than I did before I met her. :(

Going to have to disagree with this as well. DPC's cliffhangers are uneven at best. Episode 3 was great, but 4 felt underwhelming after the rushed resolution to the Maya/Josy crisis; was there any doubt we'd become a DIK? Episode 5 was effective as a kind of 'hitting rock bottom' moment, but I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger. Episode 6 definitely got our attention, but it was a bit frustrating seeing Maya's arc reset like that - especially if you weren't on her path. Episode 8 hit the reset button even harder, plus it ducked out of the consequences of the Crossroads AND had that moronic one-size-fits-all fuckstorm at the end. Really Episode 7 was the only ending I actually liked in Season 2, and the 'cliffhanger' was the weakest part (to the point Chad/Troy is barely even mentioned in Episode 8).

Frankly, the reason I'm so annoyed at the long production time for Episode 9 is because DPC botched the ending to Season 2 so badly. I want to be enthusiastic for the new season, but I have no idea what he's planning to do with it and I don't like the direction Episode 8 left us in because DPC was too obsessed with his dumb twists to sell me on what was supposedly a pivotal decision in the MC's life.
