Well, it might be an obvious mistake to make. DPC's ego is big enough to be a team of 10 people. Hence the confusion, most likely, heh.
I can't blame anyone for thinking there is a team working on BaDIK. Solo devs with completed successful games are a pretty rare occurrence, and if you don't follow this game closely enough to know DPC's history, making an assumption that there is a team developing it would be a safe assumption to make.

This back and forth on whether DPC should hire more help is humorous whenever it comes up. He's not going to hire help, period. DPC has found his money train. He will retire when this game is complete (if he makes it to the end). Even though DPC comes from one of those socialist european countries that take most of your income, he's still earned enough to retire a millionaire many times over. I think I calculated the numbers last year and posted it here, but with those high tiers on pateron and 12000+ subscriber numbers he probably earns $100,000 a month. Combine that with the steam/gog sales, which I wouldn't be surprised if he earns more from that than from his pateron subscribers, and it's obvious he has won the game of life.

He will ride this train into 2028 to 2030 and then retire. What will be interesting to see is what the visual novel scene will be like by then. Personally I think Daz 2D renders will be a thing of the past, with photorealistic 3D visual novels being the norm. Just imagine DPC could fix Maya's skin with a simple model adjustment and not have to re-render 20000 images from season 1. Or he could just tell the AI to adjust Maya's skin texture.

Of course he doesn’t. If you were earning thousands would you be in any hurry to end the job earning you it? It's quite a coincidence devs earn more the longer development takes and we see adult games take so long to complete. Longer update times, smaller updates, redoing early parts, random storylines, the story stalling etc we see it over and over in games on here. Games take time to develop but I think it's naive at this point to think porn game devs don't inflate how long they work on a game to earn more and they should be called on it but they get given the benefit of the doubt constantly.

DPC does great work but it's clear he loves the dollar and is in no hurry for his moneycow to end.
For all the DPC's flaws, he succeeded twice in making something popular and widely acclaimed. I don't think he does what he does because of some insecurity about a possible lack of $$$.

The guy could finish BaDIK and maybe his next project wouldn't be as popular, but I doubt he would lose so much following that his quality of life would be threatened. People got excited for Cyberpunk 2077 because it was made by the creators of Witcher 3, people will get excited for the next Larian Studios project because it's gonna be made by the same folk who made Baldur's Gate 3 and all the same DPC's next project (if he doesn't retire, of course) is gonna get lots of hype in the world of VNs.

My take is that he's just an artistic guy and we're all a little bit weird. I have no doubt you could find lots more weirdness, but I want to focus on the perfectionism DPC displays.

Everything can be better, I have to do it perfectly, 100% or not at all, every thing has to be bigger, better, more features, mini-games, nsfw and sfw animations.

That's how I see it.

Personally, I don't mind the wait; it's like waiting for the next season of a TV series. After watching, you feel like you're gonna die without more content. Slowly, you forget and life gets in the way. Waiting gets easier, and the moment you are reminded about it, it's already a month before the release date. If you don't like the wait, then we're lucky to have a community with great memes and discussions (albeit sometimes it gets a little bit too toxic).

We can bitch all we want, but the only way to change that would be with a wallet, so I try to look positively at things. It's only a game and sometimes I wish developers treated their games like DPC does (looking at you, CDPR).

Great. So given DPC is actually a one man show you obviously agree with Aratorn, and the rest of your post is moot.

There will be no increased pace of development, not because DPC is lazy or milking, but because he keeps upping the number or complexity of animations etc. and has repeatedly said he won't hire others to spread the load (doesn't trust others).

Why would he? He likes making the game, it's maintained popularity & he's making bank.

All the crying about how long episodes take won't make any difference, it's all pointless whining.
Not only that.
There's a ton of irony here. I mean after noticing he's sporting the "Developer" Tag, with an "Abandoned" project under his belt with large enough balls to come on here and criticize DPC of milking. Yeh I think exer has lost his moral high ground and credibility.

Yeah, exactly, and you forgot about break up with throuple, at least. As well as a potential "cheating" path with Josy, bc there are some signs of it, according to MC reaction and options in dialogue to her words, even when MC on another MG branch. All of this also adds unknown possibilities and outcomes. It's pure speculations at the moment, since we don't have a clue what DPC prepared for us.
The problem with such (sub)branching is not coding or creating still/static scenes, etc, but a lewd scenes. They have to be somehow synchronized (both in timeline of the game and place) and I doubt that he will create separate ones for different conditions and moments. Some exclusions may happen, but if we are talking about really sub-branches, then it have to be solved in one or another way. Lewd scenes may start differently, with different dialogues, probably different static images before the scene itself, but most of lewd (animated) parts must be reused anyway. Maybe it will be the new technique for getting 100% from the scenes, since some options maybe blocked according to sub-branches. Previously it was 50/100% and was sticked to player affinity, now it maybe something like 25-50-75-100, etc.

We can't explain why it's so and that variable (told Maya about Quinn) is saved and transferred to S3 (ep2_recommendedSage). So, it's not discarded, even since it was already used at least once. And since Quinn business and dark things are still not revealed and only a few persons are involved and know about her activities at the campus, this choice probably wait for a proper moment to play it's role, especially on a Throuple branch and Maya's "path" I think. We still haven't saw consequences for almost all of major choices we had made, only a few of them played their role partially (Jade, choice between nursing home and pink rose, punching Tybalt), while the rest are still in a wait state.

over 90% of the variables are for that and nothing else. someone may still have an importance in the fate of MC, but they are absolutely the minority


I think it shows in quinn path because they both saw liv and matt in the park making out(maybe have some variable for it:unsure:
during the outing with Quinn, Mc has no idea who those two people might be, it is really hard that he could have noticed them andrecognized them later at the halloween party

Lines of Dialogue
My next step in compiling all the data to do with this game was to analyse the quantity of lines.
Note before reading!
What's important to note while reading this post is that the totals only include a select list of characters.
This means that for example the lines of the bouncer at McAllens are not included in the total dialogue lines. However, I made extra effort to include the vast majority of characters.


Predeccessor
During my search for this topic I noticed sampow had previously published a brief post on the subject. So kindly give him a thumbs up!

Regarding content, here's a breakdown of the number of speaking (and thinking) lines the main characters have:
  • Maya: 3169
  • Josy: 2817
  • Jill: 2722
  • Sage: 2561
  • Bella: 2454
  • Derek: 2390
  • Quinn: 1854
  • Zoey: 967
*My Jill dialogue count doesn't match his. For the life of me I cannot identify where this difference is coming from. My Jill total is 2,678.


Now onto my findings and infographics!

Let's first look at the Main Character!
In episode 1 MC had 1,534 lines of dialogue by far the most of the episode. In episode 9 the MC more than doubled his lines increasing to 3,851. A whopping 151% increase!

Now onto the Main Girls!
  • Isabella: 162 -> 504; +211%
  • Jill: 51 -> 700; +1,272%
  • Josy: 204 -> 585; +186%
  • Maya: 271 -> 543; +100%
  • Sage: 209 -> 674; +222%
Maya's presence in the narrative has been noticeably reduced in comparison to the other girls. Maya profited greatly by the MC's residence being her dorm, as sampow pointed out. She has slowly dropped in story importance since then. Although by no means lower than the average.

Jill's conversational growth after episode 2 has been the most consistent of the primary characters. The consistency of her dialogue count most likely helps players feel her relationship develop smoothly throughout the episodes.

Sage is back on track after a little interruption from the plot in episodes 5 and 6. With the relationship picking up steam hopefully episode 10 will ssee her rise to the top!
Episode 9
  • During Episode 9, Jill was the Queen of Talking! Although Sage earned the most lewd animations and scenes, nothing compares to Jill's talent to talk!
  • Isabella recieved the least love of all the main girls. This is almost certainly to do with the setting of the episode favouring the other main girls.
  • Outside of the main girls, Quinn had the most dialogue, demonstrating yet again what a powerful character she is.
  • Tommy the co party planner beat Derek in being the highest talking male character for Episode 9. Arguably, this is a plus because Tommy's purpose in the plot is to move it forwards.
  • Zoey had a dominant performance, immediately rising to the ninth highest conversation lines character in only her second talking episode.

Speaking of data, how about some showing how much of an improvement is a 4090 in DAZ compared to a 3090, that might bring some confort to some of us...

On that note, there is even a comment here on F95 from DPC himself saying that he puts plently of junk variables in his code to hide the ones who will actually matter in future.

So yeah, most of the registred variables wont change anything but the Bios.

The fact that he retains so many of his patreons even after months of no game update really shows how most of his paying customers dont mind the wait.

He delivers what most want, a high quality adult VN. In terms of quality and quantity, no one does better than DPC.

I'm honestly not sure that DAZ games will die out by 2030 (expected date for the end of this game).

The first western game of that style that I'm aware is Date with Ariane, that came out in 2007, since then there's been a boom of that kind of game, specially in the last five years.

Even today, we see multiple projects releasing every week. Sure, most of them wont last longer than 2 updates, but it shows there is plenty of demand yet.

I believe that if the game is good it will be worth it to the creator, even if it uses "old" techniques.

With how each Daz generation is progressing I doubt AVNs with Daz models will go anywhere anytime soon. Gen 9 models are pretty damn good - Especially if the lighting is done properly. Give it ten more years and a Gen 9 might look like a Gen 3 compared to what may come in the future. We know Daz, the company, get so much money on a monthly basis from its creators, and users, so it is likely here to stay for a long time coming. Personally I don't mind.

So what happened to this dead game? Still dead I guess. :p

Came back after almost a year and still at 0.9 version.
Not dead. Just a lone dev piling on content. Next release is only a month, or so, away. Fortunately DPC does weekly status updates. Rather he take his time and produce quality than rush it for a 6 month release cycle with "average" content.
