subverting expectations isnt a bad thing, badly subverting expectations is. The first 6 seasons of GoT were literally just subverting expectations and getting people killed out of nowhere
They weren't that big of a surprise for me. But I had read all the books, and there were strong hints to what could happen there. The truth is GoT has gone to hell as soon as the writers ran out of the source material. But that is another story, and we're talking about BADIK. I think DPC is better than many film writers anyway, and I hope he will continue doing a fine work with this game.

We all know Maya only wants to join the HOTs for the supposed free tuition. We all know there isn't such a thing, but she doesn't. She will try to join the HOTs anyway because of that. So, of course she will not get the money she wants. But since she naively thinks she will, like she told MC: "It's just a couple of weeks of this and it will all be over. After that they can't force me to do things...right?", she will still try to join the HOTs. If she will eventually get the money or help she needs, remains to be seen, but I don't think she will sell her body for it.
With the way she is, I highly doubt that she will either plus she now has Josy around I don't think she would be too impressed with her doing that and neither would Derek as he would protect her from that sort of life.
The way that I achieved it was by accepting Quinn's offer and ordering all "food" items on the menu in the first episode. Maybe you don't need them all, but in one playthrough I just ordered some Japanese (I'm a sucker for some sushi
