To be fair, while I do get your point, MC had no option because they (the game mostly) gave him none.So yeah, when I played out this scenario, I wasn’t happy with it. Like Geralt said, “MC is a cunt here.” You wanna wait till after Maya and Josy’s relationship goes to shit before you swoop in and tell her, “I still want you.” Not make yourself one of the catalysts for their breakup.
Plus Josy (because she’s still hot for the MC, and might wanna swoop on him post-breakup) will be unhappy either way, but at least she won’t also hate him.
MC's mistakes (so to speak):
- going after Maya even if he's still salivating for Josy, knowing they are together or not makes no difference here, if he's in love with Josy, he should have just kept Maya at arms length, unfortunately the game sort of forces him into it, I tried to stay away from Maya, ended up in the same situation, MC frustrated and so on...
- lying to both about the fact he's already dating/cuddling/DIKing another person.
- If he's still in love with either, pushing to get them apart, this is not a nice way to behave, but... in war and love all is fair?
- Running away like a pussy, rather than sitting down with both right away and sort it out fast.
- Lying to the MC about their existing relationship, this is less sevre than for MC, as they at least both tell him they have someone else even if it's going badly.
- Jumping on the MC, nobody forces Josy to start french kissing the MC, likewise nobody forces Maya to dryhump and then kiss+cuddle him.
- Give him a binary choice, either with both of them or with neither, this isn't really a mistake, but neither is very fair, if they really care less about him than eachother, should have simply told him "sod off mate, we might be friends, but that's it"
- Keep flirting with the MC (only happens in some paths of course) whether they are only friends or in an actual 3-way relationship.
I don't see anything necessarily wrong in the behaviour above (even if they can be considered mistakes), the issue is that the game, for story reasons, doesn't really give freedom of choice, the MC will always fall for both Josy AND Maya, they will always end up back together, no matter what the MC says/does or not, the only variable is that if he's CHICK or neutral he can choose to be the 3rd wheel or their friend, if he's DIK he doesn't even have the option, but is still lowkey forced in being their friend.
