VN - Ren'Py - Being a DIK [v0.10.1] [DrPinkCake]

Easily one of the best games of its genre, perhaps the best. The animations and visuals are fairly top tier, same with the minigames, very creative stuff for renpy. The only criticism I seriously have is that in a lot of the scenes, the characters seems to be moving a bit slow, like at 70 percent speed or something, so maybe speed a lot of the animations right on up, but great stuff here.

It is the best game with awesome graphics and superb story. Full story based on college life. I never played any game like this game. All the characters are mind blowing. I definitely bate for this game. Anyone will love it.

My first experience with this game was 4 years ago. I continued to wait for updates and chapters, finally finishing the game in 2 years.

If you asked me how was the game at that time, I would say it was clearly the best game of that time. Characters were interesting, (Sage and Jill definitely awesome, others are decent) Character modelling was high quality and the story was a typical collage student's journey but still interesting.

Yet, each season felt like it started to lose its quality. The first season was perfect, I would give 5 starts to it, but once the second season came, I felt like it wasn't great as first season. There were not that much of new characters, fooling with what we already have and only progressing with the story. That would rated 4 stars for me tbh.

After I finished the season 3, I again felt like it wasn't good as much as before, even lower than the previous season. Still, finally having a great time with Jill was worth it. Still, I cannot give this 5 stars, again. I can say 3.5 stars

That would because some things inside this game are shouldn't be here. I don't think there would be character paths in a game like this. You need to play the whole 3 seasons to see the other characters paths, also ending doesn't feel right.

I will still give 4 stars because of the characters, renewing the club house quest and the quality time this game gave me. It could be better, and it makes me sad.

I was playing this game when I was in high school. I was just turned to 18 around this time of the year and was playing this game as my first H-Game. Now, I'm 22 and a collage student. I feel old and sad.

Overall is a great game with a decent story, and various funny moments. The animations are on top level really, they're above so many other games in that part. I also liked that there was a lot of decisions and paths to go, and loved the characters.

Probably the game with the most amount of high quality content on the site and one of those that you know will be finished, so that's already big.

Two years ago I'd give this 5 stars easily and I was defending the game from free roam haters, but now... long waiting times for updates brings these issues out and I see why people have issues with it. I'm the kind of player that pays attention and wants to know all the details, so I'm kinda forced to replay the game before an update, because the wait times for updates are starting to get ridiculously long and you forget shit in between them. And so I had to deal with minigames and free roams so many times by now, I'm starting to hate them. Yes, you can disable minigames, but then you earn less money and some decisions are just forced on you.

Can't help but wonder how far into the story we'd be and possibly have more time with bros and girls we like, if all the time dev spends for these minigames would go into actual renders and story instead.

There are also some very annoying forced decisions you can't get around - inviting Jill on a date (why would I if I don't plan to do her path?) or telling Sage you want to be more than fuck buddies - then telling her "changed my mind", because I in fact wanted to just be fuck buddies and didn't play on her path at all, but game just decides that you do and when she is ready for you, you have to be an idiot and say "nah, changed my mind", if you want to chase another girl.

I thought for sure that I had written a review for this game long ago but perhaps it got deleted for some reason.

Being a DIK is in my top three favorite visual novels.

Cons

• Didn't care for the Interlude (Zoey story when she leaves the MC to pursue her surfing dream in San Diego)
• Episode 9 (Halloween party) was fairly good but was 90% free roam events
• Episode 10 was mostly dry story and missing most of the fun of earlier episodes
• Some animations are too robotic/stiff
• The dev doesn't use descriptive language much at all during sex scenes resulting in some of them lacking passion and immersion
• MC cums once = sex is over! Lots of devs do this for some unknown reason??? A guy (even through his forties) can cum multiple times during sex. I personally could cum three times in a row without a break. The first orgasm would take 5 minutes, 2nd 10 minutes, 3rd 15 minutes. I even did it 7 times in one day when I was in my early 20s and had a high level of fitness. Cumming once = sex is over is highly unrealistic!
• The game takes a turn for the worse after episode 8 and the tone of the game changes quite a bit for me. Choosing a LI to go steady with means that you are forced into being loyal to that LI and can only have sex with her and no one else. Yes, there's the 'Others' path but the game feels wrong if you choose to commit to a LI in episode 8. The MC gets into lots of potential sexual situations with girls and has to tell them repeatedly that he is committed to someone and won't cheat. With episodes 1-8 being a fuckfest with lots of girls, it just feels off. If you want to continue to fuck lots of girls (side LIs) you have to choose the 'Others' path (not committing to any girl) which then blocks you from having sex with most of the main LIs. If you love to do multiple playthroughs (5 in total to see all paths/content) then great, otherwise I feel that this was a bad decision by the developer.

Conclusion

• Episodes 1-8 - 5/5 stars - near masterpiece - brilliant fun
• Interlude - 3.5/5 stars - meh... not my cup of tea
• Episode 9 - 4 stars - minus one star for the forced cockblocking and blue balling if you don't choose the 'Others' path - Too many free roam events
• Episode 10 - 4 stars - more cockblocking and forced faithfulness to your chosen LI if you don't choose the 'Others' path - story is a bit dry - not as fun as previous episodes

A near masterpiece AVN! Yes, there are things that I dislike and could be improved upon but overall the developer did an awesome job with this game!

All the pieces fit together well to make an engaging and fun game! The best parts of the game are the beautiful characters, writing, story, and humor.

I highly recommend this game and encourage others to give it a try!

One of my favorite AVNs on F95Zone! The author does nearly everything well with little to criticize.

Most visual novels offer the illusion of choice while Being a DIK offers real branching (very rare).

The game is a fun ride but loses it's charm a bit after episode 8. I didn't find the Interlude and episodes 9 and 10 to be as fun as earlier content.

The renders and writing is superb with a fun cast of characters, each with their own unique personalities.

A few minor negatives:

The animations can be a bit stiff. Not enough body parts are moving in some of them with more facial changes needed. Still, the animations are good and above average.

Some of the sex scenes could be more passionate and engaging. Overall, the lewd content is good and sometimes even great.

The author insists that Being a DIK is not a harem game so there are plenty of hard choices that the player has to make regarding relationships. You can fuck lots of girls through episode 8 with few consequences. If you want to continue to be a playboy after episode 8 you have to choose the Others path and not commit to any of the LIs in the game. If you don't choose the Others path, then you are locked into having sex with your chosen LI ONLY. I feel that this was a poor decision as you only get a very limited number of sex scenes if you commit to any of the LIs.

Zoey is cool and all but the Interlude was my least favorite part of the game. In the Interlude you switch to playing Zoey (the MC's best friend and casual lover). The story devolves into her getting lots of tattoos and piercings which I don't care for with girls. I had a hard time getting through this as it was painful to watch Zoey ruin her beautiful body with large bold tattoos.

A great game that is very well done in nearly every way!

Hands down the best AVN I have ever played and I have played a LOT. It is by far the Golden standard for this.

It starts a little bit slow but once I got into it, I wasn't able to put it down anymore. It has just the right amount of branching and paths to discover. The mini games can be a little annoying if you are doing reruns, but I got used to them.

the LIs are amazing and very well developed and the MC is actually easy to relate to and self insert (if you are like me and tend to do that.)

The music is on point and the animations are excellent. The renders are very high quality, maybe a step or two behind SG but still look amazing particularly in the later episodes.

I find the plot is very engaging , I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to figure it out and doing theory crafting about this game. Still the twists are very intriguing.

Recently, the updates seem to come regularly, around once a year, usually in Dec/Jan. But that also means that they are sizeable updates which is really good. This deep into the project, with this level of branching and quality, this is to be expected.

If you are about to try this game for the first time, I suggest you do a blind run with no mods or WT. After that, go crazy and explore all the paths in anyway you like.

Know that I am so jealous that you are about to experience this awesome AVN for the first time.

Man, the quality of this game is unreal compared to the most other games here. I knew it was rated very high, but for some reason i just ignored it. Decided give it a try recently, i don't even remember why. Color me surprised.

Actually feels like a proper visual novel, instead of half-assed attempt to extort you through patreon. Interesting fun story and characters that have some depth, banger music, lots of choices and love interests (choices matter btw). Pretty good humor. Some pixel hunting and okay minigames to spice things up a little.

If i had to find a downside i'd say LI's looks are too perfect, everyone is a model. There seems to be 5 "main" LI's, but man, some side girls are interesting enough to be there, shame they aren't.

Summary:

Graphics are good, sometimes too good. Animations and all that. I wouldn't mind some more plain looking LIs.

Story is actually fun colledge adventures.

Characters are great. Not just the girls, guys are fun to be around as well.

Lots of choices, some don't matter, but also a lot of those that do.

Give it a try, it is a good game even if there wasn't any naughty content.

The best AVN I've played.

Excellent graphics, quality renders and otherworldly animations. Now sure, you can complain that 60 FPS animations add nothing to the story, and that is right. Plus, they take weeks to render. But they improve the overall quality and feeling of the game. If you've heard strong critisism towards this game, that's because it is not perfect, but nothing is perfect. If you're reading this and considering trying it out, do it. Just make sure you have time. It's highly addictive. Soo much content, in such high quality. Easter eggs, minigames...
It's almost too good.

After not having played this for a long, long time; I can still say that this is still the golden standard for Adult Video Games. The setting and locations are ridiculous, but the characters are unbelievably real. The story is real. The emotions are real, all of them. However, the game seems like it will be longer than it needs to be. There already is 10s of hours of content, even if you want to go for just one girl. Also I fucking hate the Chick and DIK system locking you out of some routes but if you have to include personality based on a points system, this is the best way to do it.

This game feels as if it is written for a mature audence. There's not a single moment of cringe juvenile fantasy with writers imposed guilt deflection after stupid moments of 'groping or touching' that does not belong in a particular moment. No awkward spying and other juvenile tendancies, the MC for all intents and purposes is acting the age he is and confident enough to own the moments he's flung into with options that are reasonable whatever path you take.

The story is excellent and it pushes you forward, sex happens aloot and theres many opportunities BUT you have to be moderately intelligent, pay attention because the women in this game arn't just sex drones, they appear to have been written with standards and isn't blocked behind awkward over abundance of petting or gringing and other simplike "sex".

Thanks to DPK's previous game, and this game in particular, my standards for these kind of games is so insanely high, 99.9% of the games i try i cant make it past the 20 minute mark any more.

When I started playing this, I thought it's going to be another time wasting, porn game with some eye candy. I came for the smut, but stayed for the story.
After one playtrough I became almost obsessed with following the story for different characters, or the slight difference in choices that reflect a bigger change in the end. I haven't played that many Ren'py games but I've never seen something like this, easily leagues and leagues above majority of the stuff here, the music choice is awesome, it perfectly reflects the emotion trying to be conveyed, no wonder other ren'py are paying homage to this game.

This game feels like a huge amount of effort for nothing.

The animations are really good, sure, but the plot is so bad and cringey that it's basically unplayable.

I'm not talking about ethics and being degenerate nonsense, because I don't care about that so much.

It really just is really a bad experience, I don't care if you warn me beforehand, I'm not gonna enjoy living a simulated week of life wearing a ridiculous helmet with a dick on top pretending to have meaningful conversations with it in an unrealistic world where a school would be ok with it.

All characters are annoying cunts except a couple of them that you're not going to fuck anyway, you only get to fuck the most annoying one and maybe one extra after X hours if you try hard.

There's no way you're going to do better than that wihtout following a guide, and no, if you need to constantly read a guide to play it's not a good game experience.

Most characters are just a tease and after going through a staggering 6 hours of dialogues-based gameplay and ridiculous minigames (remember all the cringe facts about the ugly girls) you'll realize that you will be able to fuck 1 or 2 at most.

If i want a game to be challenging, it has to be real challenge, not some unpredictable outcome between two dumb choices that you don't even like that is going to lock out some more content every time.

I'm sorry, I can see the effort of making this game but I really can't understand all this hype. So much effort towards this is absurd. A noob developer making a bad game design is understandable, but this is unexcusable given the amount of potential.

I was expecting big things from this game. I was disappointed. To be fair, i barely got past chapter one, but that was about a full 3 hours of my time sunk into this game (i went for every collectable), so take my review with a grain of salt.

Positives:

• the actual style of the writing itself is excellent. clearly the dev knows how to write, and can convey emotions effectively.
• The Renders are pretty good. certainly not my favorite set of renders I've ever seen in a porn game, but a solid 8/10.
• The characters that you are meant to like are interesting, and aren't just paper cutouts with one or two personality traits.

Negatives:

• The sex animations are a little stiff. Not the biggest deal, but still detracts from the experience a little.

the real reason this only has three stars: the game is made to make you mad in the first chapter, and gives you no chance for any sense of satisfaction with any events in the story to that point (assuming you did the choices i did, i have no clue if its different if you're an complete asshole like it seems the game wants you to be). The game does warn you that it will make you mad, though it does not tell you that it will be to the extent that it makes you want to punch half the characters in the face, including ones that you will have scenes with in the future. nearly every male character (including the ones that are a part of the fraternity you character will join) are intolerable bastards who you wish you could strangle. a couple of the "love interests" are too. i played as a decent person, as i tend to do in porn games (just because I'm a pervert doesn't mean i don't have standards for behavior) and i don't recommend doing so.

honestly, this game might just not be for me. if you get frustrated or angry at any rate other than the patience of a saint., don't bother trying to play this game. if you do decide to play, i wont stop you. you might enjoy it. i didn't.

From my point of view the best porn game I played so far. Great characters, great story, and some amazing lewd scenes.
A game where the decisions you take are really changing the evolution of the story. this gave also some good changes of replay it if you wnat to see all the deteails of the story

Reduing a star because of the Free roam system.It takes a lot of time to finish some tasks.Dr pink cake should involve some guiding steps to move forward while the free roam happens.Apart from it the game is the best in this platform.Nothing comes closer in terms of the overall branching,Writing quality,Renders and amazing animations.Will edit my review if the freeroam guides are added in future updates to 5 star

One of the best games around, Great Renders, Great Writing, Great Girls, , This game does branching like no other and is ambitious in everything it does, but it works, a game everyone should play at least once through considered one of the best for a reason. incredible
