I think the Derek part is so you can try to get either Josy or Maya as individuals rather than a Poly relationship.Not at all. I see it as like a las warning of " are you sure you want this " moment.
if you are friend with them, you dont have to go with Josy, to her father, or you can deny it. I don't know if you still get the scene anyway.
but what i know is the conversation with Derek. and that is the KEY. You can choose right there. and I honestly believe based on your choice there, you can lock down yourself on a path, and if you choose you moved on. that will may or not may, but i assume, lock you out for Gaining Relationship Points with the girls. and this is what will comes into play how the game will end, maybe even certain scenes.
Josy, and Maya won't be removed from the game, you will still have scenes with them, no matter what, but based on this decision, this will determine how much. and how far you can go with them.
and there is evidence of this because if you are not on their path you already missing the finale scene with them.
but you can't expect DPC to create, different scenes for every single shit. there has to be a linear story that happens no matter what
JILL is literally forced on us no matter what, because for story, it must happen. so even if i'm not into her, i still have go through the whole dating, thing, or i still have to had the scenes with bella in episode 2. I can't even chose wheter to kiss her or not.

Instead of paying attention to the story, and call it bad writing, becasue they are the one who did not not ahcived the outcome they hopped for, or tought they deserv.I remember reading somewhere that DPC didn't want people minmaxing RP, that's why they became less relevant with each update.
That is true, actually. RP for M & J can only be gained on the threesome path in ep 5 (dancing with them, selecting the right options in their sex scenes, and the picnic). There are no RP opportunities on the friend path so this could be an interesting thing going forward since they both they tell the MC they stil have feelings for him on the friend path.
