Same. I think a lot of people make too big a deal out of both of these choices, but mainly the Jill one in terms of not going on the date with her. I don't believe that either of these decisions will have too big a negative consequence if you don't choose one of them. Sage will be a bit pissed you didn't come over and when you turn down Jill, her inner thoughts could suggest that she's not willing to give up on the MC:You can go to take care of Sage, only the birthday discussion does not happen. I think this is so you have the option to bail out before commiting to Jill.
But I do think that the Sage decision also serves to put the breaks on the Jill declaration to (hopefully) allow the MC to play the field a bit longer without consequence before being funnelled into one relationship.
