VN - Ren'Py - Being a DIK [v0.10.1] [DrPinkCake]

Not much to say,just play this game for yourself. It's an experience you don't want to miss. Great art, very good music, but most important a really really good story. My god, each character its different from another, and they are all so real,its amazing. Absolutely stunning game, well done Dr PinkCake!

First up, i mainly gave this game a shot because the reviews here were all incredibly positive. Positive to the point where i felt "it can't be that good, but let's try it."

It was actually quite good.
Not the "best game on f95", not the "funniest game i've ever played", nor did i see a "5/5 story" anywhere. But it was pretty good. I'd advise you to give it a shot too see for yourself. Just remember to keep your expectations a little lower than "best game i've ever played."

Starting with a short synopsis:
You're a dude from a poor background, with no mom and a poor single dad, and enroll in a college where apparently a lot of drama is happening. All the time. The kind of drama teenagers think of, when they picture what college or university or whatever is like.

This has its own charm, and does have some fun aspects to it, but story wise, it doesn't offer that much we haven't seen already at least a couple times in a teen movie. It offers comedic relief characters galore, it offers the obvious bad boy antagonists and peer pressure, but not that many great characters.
Let's talk about the side characters first. There aren't all that many, and in general, the game likes to generalize. There's the nerds and the rich kids respectively, and their own little Fraternities. Represented by one (!) character each (Love interests are not counted.). Then there are the jocks, where i recall the names of 2 characters (!), and only one of them has any relevance story wise. Yeah, that's three of the five big factions on the campus. Furthermore, pretty much all of those characters i just mentioned seem to come straight out of a mediocre Teen Drama. I can describe each of the characters above with 2 to 3 words each, and you know nearly all which is to know about them already.
Frankly, even when the other 2 factions get those numbers back up again (which of course are your own faction and the hot girls), it shows how the game does not care about its surroundings, or worldbuilding, if you will, all that much.
Which isn't totally required, but yeah, the "best game on f95" with the "great characters" should be above that. Way above that.

Moving on, to the main characters. Which are mainly you, the cliché stupid best friend character we've all seen so many times, and the love interests. Which look great, to be fair. Renders are top notch. And most of them have some inner conflicts or deeper thematics to explore. Sadly, and i really mean that, the story apparently needs them all (except one, so far ?) to be in some sort of drama again. The teen drama again. Where everyone is lying, has secrets they can't ever tell anyone, and has to have a dark and secret past.
This is, i think, what i dislike most about this game. The story forces so much unnecessary or straight up stupid conflict upon you to keep you interested. Without dropping any kinds of hints first, on what's about to happen.
Maybe that's also why i am referencing teen movies so much in this review. All the characters do not seem to act rationally or in their best interests, but simply and solely with the end goal of creating drama and tension for the story.

Last, but not least, bring a walkthrough. You really need one to find even half of the bonus content, which is hidden pretty damn well throughout the game. And you also need the walkthrough for some of the minigames, which in my opinion, aren't really great. But since there is bonus content hidden behind beating them, i buckled up and went through the chore of going through them anyways.

Edit: I didn't talk about one key feature of the game, which is the DIK/CHICK-System, or the "bad boy / good boy" - points, so to speak.
They do have some impact on making your player act differently according to your previous decisions, which is pretty cool for any kind of role-playing game.

Very good Story, decent humour, great renders and animations many different type of girls. Very hot scenes with great Scenarios.
Minigames okish not a fan of 3x3 puzzlers , comboing was ok, math/logic game cool, english game ah terrible and listen game nah but it supports the story . Excited to see it unfold. Has a pt like sys depending on choices finding treasure codes and all renders is a bit more work than expected sry cheated my way through after 1st playthrough. Did like MC and his background curious if his first gf may have another appereance. Not so sure if a Chick Route would have it's benefits atm. Thanks Keep up the good work.

I was able to immerse myself in game stories and characters. In addition, I was impressed by various factors such as mini-game, subject-specific exams and SNS.
I'm already looking forward to next season.

Quite simply, this game is amazing. I usually to don't like writing reviews, but I really feel like this game deserves one. When you play this game, you really feel the characters come to life. I've become emotionally invested in this game. Dr.pink has done it again with another great game.

ive played both the maya/josie path, the sage /path and the jill path, and i absolutely love this game, great and beautiful renders and animations, great story, lots of comedy and drama.. even the side girls has great renders and etc. love that you can fool around with them too.. brings more to the game...

all in all this game does well in story and replayability, and that is what im looking for in these games.. keep up the good job - Pink - and cant wait for the next season.. but will gladly if it means more content and quality.

This game is legit the funniest adult game i've ever played, there's so many funny scenes, and the frat bro theme is so well done here i'm really immersed into it. Your choices have meaning, and will set you on two different paths, including several smaller ones. And there are so many different personalities to interact with, it's really well done. I also like the wholesome brotherhood feel to the story, and the character backstory is really well done and you feel for the dude.

Definitely a must try!

The story, renders, and animation are excellent. The game is very fun to play and the story leaves you wanting more, and I love the humor. So why a 3?

The brawler mini-game started off as a nice, simple, easy to play game in the first 2 episodes, and then took a turn for what I consider the worst in episode 3 and 4. The simple tactical rpg type set up was replaced with a The Tower type setup but implemented poorly. It works in The Tower, because the button combo system acts as a optional damage multiplier and damage can still be done without using it. In BADIK, the combination of ups,downs,lefts,rights must be completed to land a hit or block and evade, and the timer is very short, so it becomes annoying. So yes, one mini-game has lowered the rating that I was going to give from a 5 to a 3.

The story is also A to B, but also has ton of choices. The free-roam is OK, but limited to a small area which makes the game feel slightly claustrophobic at times, however it's barely noticeable.

Overall, the game is solid and worth playing and the mini-games can be turned off if you don't like them.

This game wins in most categories over other games, except for frequency of updates.

it almost feels like the perfect game, the developer (s) really know what they are doing with this one, i just wish that we didnt have to wait for so god damn long 3 updates a year is what it is looking like, which is a bit sad imo considering how much this game has to give.

4/5 because of the long wait times, which is even harder to endure considering the fact that the game is so good.

Excellent animations and very well-kept graphics. The story is fun and pleasant, never boring or repetitive. Varied and enjoyable music. The choice to leave the songs available for listening even outside the game is interesting. I have not encountered any relevant bugs. Of all the games tested, it is absolutely my favorite

The storytelling isn't as tight as it could be, and it isn't very inspired or ambitious, and I can't say I felt much emotional investment. But it has enough laughs, heart, and entertaining person to amuse your little fantasy in this university.
Aside from great production, I just hope one day in this game has a path that can please everyone, from the worst to the best ending ever.

This is a great game, and I can't wait for more future updates. Each episode brings a lot to the story, and it's well animated. The only issue I have is the navigation when moving around can be confusing. It'd help if the navigation had a minimap which shows the current location. The navigation controls could also be improved so it's easier to have a perspective of where you're at

There's so much to be said about this game. It's one of the top tier VN/Adult games I've ever played. It certainly sets the standard for those who wants to produce a high quality visual novel such as this. I loved this game so much that it was one of the first projects I've ever backed on Patreon.

PROS

• Cast: Any game can't shine without a good cast. This one has a variety of girls and guys to interact with. You as the MC, can choose your route and go for almost any girl you want. There's almost every type of girl for everyone out there in the cast, so play the game to your heart's content!
• Renders/Animations: Beautiful. There's not much else to say except that it's absolutely stunning. The animations are great and you can tell a lot of work was put into the game by someone who cares.
• Music: The music is surprisingly good in this game, I never expect much from the music department when playing these type of games, but the music is not annoying and actually fits the tone in most situations.
• Story: I lastly want to touch on the story. I think the story works well within the context of the game, it actually helped me connect with some of the characters on a deeper level and made me feel immersed. It was like I was an actual college student living the best times of his life, experiencing everything one does at the age, from comradery to happiness to heartbreak, there's all types of emotions to feel in this game.

CONS

• Navigation: I feel like sometimes navigating through some of the places can be confusing and tiresome. I hope the UI can be a little bit easier and more visible in future seasons. I kind of wished there was a map sometimes cause I get lost at times.
• Mini-games: This can be a hit or miss for some people. I turned off mini-games because I solely just wanted to enjoy the story and sex scenes, I feel like it can ruin the flow sometimes.

That's it for my review of this game. This game should be the standard for anyone who wants to produce a top tier game in this genre. DrPinkCake is certainly killing it right now. Season 1 is completed and is coming to STEAM of all places, that's huge and I can't wait to play it again on STEAM! Looking forward to season 2 and can't wait to see more of our favorite girls!

This adult game has it all. It has great music and fantastic art work. The story line is also fantastic. It has multiple branching story line that can affect your choices in the future. Keep up the good work.

Another game where the porn takes a side role, for me at least , for the story! The story that Dr.P has come up with is unique, funny and dark all at the same time. Just like his other VN the relationships you build with characters feels genuine! Now of course what adds to this is the beautiful renders and fantastic animations but for me and my wife being entertained is much more satisfying and this game does that! Complex story, choices matter, amazing animations and some genuine emotion felt as the story progressed. Took three playthough to get most of the scenes unlocked.

Every girl has a personality that brings something special to the mix.

All i got to say about this game is awesome renders, animations, music, nice mini games, and the fact you do not roam free too much is the best i completed the game from start until version 0.4 and now i want more.
Not even a problem with bugs or stuck in some places good job.

A game that has both serious and ridiculous aspects. Made me laugh out loud a number of times. There is a large amount of good content. The mini-games are irritating and inconsistent, but there are ways around them, or you can turn them off. Well, I am off for another play to see how other options play out.

Right now I think this is the best ongoing game. I like Deluca Family's and Light of my Life's stories a lot more but as a porn game this one has a lot more content. I don't like playing again and again to see the other routes but I agree that makes the story a lot more realistic so I am fine with it.

I am really enjoying the game and I don't like getting a best harem kind of an unrealistic ending in which you get all the girls so I am fine with choices. But I really hope writer won't pull another Acting Lessons and make this a tearjerker story to add drama.
