VN - Ren'Py - Being a DIK [v0.10.1] [DrPinkCake]

You know, if you define a game as something that brings you some particular emotions, then most of the novels we have here aren't even games. They're just porn, shaped into a little bit more interactive form than videos, comics or stories. I'm not saying that it's hard to find a good novel, but what I mean is, when you find a couple of good ones, the rest start looking worse and worse. Just the way it happens with any other form of art.
And what's the most important aspect of any novel? Why, writing, of course. One gets used to good things quite easily. It's just as simple with the visual novels. And that's what I'm leading to: I really wish there were more people like DrPinkCake who would understand the value of good writing. There is only a handful of indie novels out there that provide us with a great reading experience, and I do hope people will give them as much attention as they deserve (however Being a DIK already has a great number of supporters, so you can't say it's underrated in any way).
This novel has it all: cultural references, self-irony, characters that feel alive, and actually believable, natural dialogues. It's hilarious or serious when it needs to be, it never gets boring and keeps you sucked into the story, makes you feel for those characters, even if it's just a porn game.
I truly wish there were more adult novels like this one in terms of sheer writing quality.

-cool minigames

I also like the switches between story driven vn and the free roam.

Great character drawings with actual interactions, and a good story. Although at times it still feels a bit like the typical book-style "game" and some of the interactions points were complicated but overall a solid good actual game.

This game is by far the most story driven game I have played in a while , just like acting lessons where fapping is secondary choice and story is more important (to me) . All the characters are unique and have their own charisma. The game is easy to play and gives you an option to skip the minigames( for players like me who dont like minigames). Renders are beautiful and unique and story is crafted the way you want. Actions will have consequences so beware as no one knows when will somebody die (Acting lessons). So in the end peace out and enjoy the game.

This game is 1st place at my best 5 games list.

This one is best game so far. But the only bad part is that the update dates are not certain and take longer.

I must say, i've never though that i would see something inspired by american pie be even better that the movie itself. It has a simple plot and premisse but it delivers so god damn well. one thing that i adore about dr pink cake is that he really knows how to make caracters and develop them. the fact that this game gives you the choice to be a terrible person or a good person and suffer the consequences of your choice just makes the game worth while to play. the only problem that i had with this game it was the mini- games but that issue was completely fixed on the third update.

Because of that, it gets a 5/5 for me

Quite possibly the best adult novel on this site and for what it's worth, the best one I've played.
At the moment of writing this review, the first 3 episodes have come out and purely by its graphic quality, the game stands apart with just a few others that come close to it. The renders are beautiful and not once was I left with a feeling of "hey, this looks weird". Far more importantly, the author has really worked on trying to create a unique vibe which would be suitable for a uni-frat type story and it's bang on.
Most importantly, the story in this game is fun (loads on interesting scenes), but also thoughtful and well-paced, there are actual obstacles on the road to a home-run and your actions do feel like they consequences.
Hands down, I'm impressed and can't wait for the next dose of this awesome piece of creation.

A very, very good game. The renders are excellent, the characters interesting, the decisions seem to have weight and of course, the girls are hot and the sex is steaming. Easily a 5-star game.
There are optional minigames that are also interesting, and short, mind you.

As a note: There are choices that were difficult for me to make, not because they were not intuitive but because many choices have pros and cons.

Great game, a good caring developer. Acting Lessons is one of my favorite games by its decisions and the story telling and Being A Dick hasn't disappointed me in any way so far. I am sure it will get better

Review for 0.4 played from start for each version since first released.

Because of this game, I try to review others without comparing them too much, I mean this is far above what I expected of one game of this kind.

So much different girls, the quality of the renders and animations is phenomenal.
An impressive soundtrack, mini-games are fun and optional.
A very well written and interesting story, a lot of h-scenes. Choices are important.

Those cliffhangers are a bit cruel let us wondering what will happen next, can't wait to see the story develop even more.

It is very difficult for me to choose a girl they all have their qualities and flaws. From the main girls, I really liked Sage in episode 4 and each time that Quinn appears I like her more, she seems to really care about you, I hope that she doesn't screw the MC in the end. Although in most games I choose early a favorite and go with it here is difficult to choose, no one looks that "perfect" nor that bad. Wanna see more of Camila and Riona. Favorite game.

Super looking visuals, a really creative story, and lots of content.
I just wish that the choices you make influenced the story more.
Really mind-blowing that it was made by one person though.

This game has a path you are set to go down, and so, you get railroaded down that path, even if all along the way, you're given choices for actions and dialog that go 100% against that path. You can hate the fraternity system entirely, you can hold a serious grudge against the DIKs, you can even tell them at the initiation party that you think the whole thing is stupid... and then one minute later, "Woo! This is fun! I love it!"

Look, if you're going to make the options available, make the story fit the options. If there was some build-up to coming around and sort of liking these guys, and then, ok, you like them! Or, if they weren't awful fucking assholes to you to begin with, and you just like them already, that'd be fine. But the game is like, "You can totally hate these guys!... Until we say that you can't anymore. So your character does a complete 180 and now you're happy to be where you are." Makes no damn sense.

Being A Dik has set the standard of a quality release. Great attention to details in sound design, writing arc & the visuals are amazing. It might not be everyone's taste but for those that enjoy these stories, you'll be left anticipating for months the next incredible update. Already 3 episodes it has at least 4 hours of content!

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. This game being in the same rating as other 5 stars on this site does this game a huge disservice because it is so far ahead of anything else it's ridiculous.
On every level from the technical to the creative side this game is on a whole other level.
I'm not going to give a detailed breakdown as I'd be only treading on old ground after all the other reviews but had add my 5 stars regardless.

A genuine masterpiece.

Really great writing, it's a fun story to follow ! The only thing I find less attractive is how the characters are rendered. Too 'smooth'.. Maya for exemple looks like she has 5 kg of makeup on her face.

Кроме того, разные фетиши и выбор женских персонажей на любой вкус. Конечно, есть небольшие недостатки, связанные с тем, что мир сжимается в определенном месте, где происходит сюжет, но это не менее, чем минус, хотя было бы еще лучше открыть места для посещения разных персонажей вдоль участок.

This game is the best. It contains everything you could ever want, from kinda realistic point of view.
It has great story (not great but GREAT),exceptional character models, hot scenes, funny dialogies...
It is best visual novel there is (from my POV) because of this:
STORY: 100%, funny characters, has emotional scenes, believable conflicts
GAMEPLAY: "DICK/CHICK meter with importand decisions system" was kinda confusing for first 15 minutes, later its ok, interesting idea. I consider english exams to be impossible for non native english person, i gotta use external pages to create words from letters, lol this minigame should be made easier. About gender studies, well, I am not a fan. I often use console to get over all of these exams, excep math
CHARACTERS: amazing chracters, with deep personalities, and intriguing traits. I have to say that RENDERS: there is not quality over quantity trade off here, each udate gets a LOT of content, with VERY good quality, great lightning, and you can see pores on skin on every character
SCENES: scenes are HOT (heh), long, and really well done

I dont know what else to say about this game, just that it SHOULD be played by everyone. Everyone will find his thing.

This is an awesome game!
It has a great story line, a nice decision mechanism and great renders and super animations.
Each of the characters has its own story and its fun to learn those stories. If you want to know them all you have to be carefull with your decisions to not offend the characters you want to know better.

It's a great game, amazing compared to most games on here but still with it's problems, far from a perfect game.

Dialogue and storytelling in general is well done, except for some obvious places where relationships seem rushed. That being said, the game takes a lot longer than it could only because the dialogues is all over the place, while it's well written, there's just too much of it and the pacing can't keep up.

The renders are beautiful, every girl and every scene is a work of art, some of the best looking renders in the business.

Minigames are atrocious, who wants to do real math in middle of an erotic game? I had to cheat myself through those to make it bearable.

Came for the porn, stayed for the plot and the music. The best Visual Novel I've played so far. 10/10
I instantly went to Patreon to support the creator after I finished the third chapter, and now... its waiting time.
