I think Maya's predicament is the one thing in life Derek takes seriously. Other than that, he's not concerned about the outcomes of things until it's too late.
I think his approach to the MC and Maya was to try to get the mc to back off. Not too bright when he's the one who put them both in the same dorm room.
Derek really doesn't think things through. It's a miracle how he's able to continue cheating in class without the teachers catching him. You'd think with him being shirtless and all, it'd be a detriment to his cheating ability, but on the contrary it seems to be an advantage, the reason being that the teachers don't really expect a shirtless person to be able to cheat, yet he somehow does it anyway. The actual fuck?
And about Derek and the list of problems he caused, the main is missing, that idiot started the sprinklers during the party and this was the stupidest thing to do, causing the MC to have that big problem wit Tybalt, risking to destroy the relation with Jill and the MC.
That idiot never think twice and always makes the wrong move.
And he is supposed to be the MC best friend !!

Yeah. Derek made the choice and carried it out.
But he wasn't alone when he did it, so MC carries at least some of the weight of the consequences for not stopping him.
That's true, but without him, we wouldn't have gotten shit done either. There had to be a valid conclusion to that party episode, and going back without the HOTs was just not it. Think about it, without his idea, what would we tell the DIKs, and how would we get the HOTs out of that shitface party? Sure, he's not exactly bro material, but you can't deny his insanity gets things done. If I were the MC, I'd be at a loss for what to do either. I don't consider Derek to be a person you can open your heart to, but his way of getting things done is effective, albeit unconventional and risky.
In the fourth chapter Derek is the choice of the "losers" or those who don't want to take risks by engaging with the other LIs. and of the 3 possibilities he is definitely the worst.
we don't have so many interactions with Derek because he disappears, in the fifth chapter when we go to Bella's he could theoretically come too but he backs out, in the seventh he could come to the HOTs party but he has much more important things to do...
in this second season his role is absolutely marginal
Agreed. He doesn't play much of a role in the second season except for comic relief, with his constant avoidance of Wendy, and being somewhat depressed because of Ashley coupling up with Anthony. He's pretty much irrelevant to the story at this point, with his only role being a DIK brother and Maya's brother. Otherwise, the only time you really have a heart-to-heart with him is on your couch in Episode 6 because of Ashley. And just because of him, we might've ruined a perfectly alright relationship between Ash and Big A, all because once we told Derek that Ashley said she wasn't mad anymore, he acted on impulse and immediately gave her a call because he was drunk. IMO, if it wasn't for the story progression and having to get rid of the alphas, I would've just told him when he was sober, because who the fuck tells important shit to a drunk person?
Derek as a character isn't exactly the best, but you have to agree that he has his moments. He fucked the granny, introduced us to Swyper (Nora and Nicole
), got us together with Maya (though he's regretting it now which is dumb. I mean, you're putting two 19-year olds of the opposite gender together in a room. The fuck was gonna happen?), farted on the guard and a few more moments which were pure gold. While I do dislike how loose-lipped he is, it's alright for me as long as we don't trust him with anything important, and just take him as a DIK brother we can have fun with. Solves everything.
