Now I'm going to say something very hypocritical, but I take responsibility for it.

for how it works Patreon, DPC has no motivation to shorten production time, absolutely none

if tomorrow he could release the seventh chapter, but a sudden attack of diarrhea made him postpone the publication of 24 hours, he would have gained $$$$$$$$ more. without doing anything.

it's a hypocritical consideration because having never donated a $ to any developer i have no right to complain, but the situation is this

to lengthen too much the time could make him lose some impatient patreon, but to shorten them he has really nothing to gain.
I was a patron of DPC, and only DPC, as I really think he's masterful in every aspect of this genre. But a wait THIS long was a bit too much for me (I do appreciate the content and the quality of it, don't get me wrong, but I can wait a bit longer to get it without paying every month for a weekly progress update for months)

I don't think we are ever going to go back to 3-month developments for episodes. As the equipment improves and income grows, so does each episode's ambition. I believe DPC wants to constantly add new things, whether they are more phone apps, more mini-games, more redesigns, more non-lewd animations, or just longer animations in general. All of that is not necessarily a bad thing, but I do think the short turnarounds are gone forever.
Think about what all of this is going to do to the size of the episode's too.

supporters have a very strong inertia, there are dead games that are not abandoned by them anyway....

but in my opinion a significant delay (2-3 months more) would lead to losses among patreons (maybe minor ones) even for DPC.

probably the fact of giving constant updates would limit the damages
I'd wager a lot of the patrons, especially the cheaper ones, don't really care too much. Once you make the 10-20 buck commitments, it's too much effort to cancel it.

I end up subscribing to services that I barely use but yet keep it for months on end.

I don't patron games though because even though I understand that you're supporting the developer the idea of paying so much for a game doesn't commute.

Oh the GBs when this is all said and done. The poor laptop. Yeah, mobile phone apps, *sigh* DPC doesn't have to be Apple and give us constant phone upgrades. I liked the basics we had at the beginning. Everything we needed without all the bloat.

Anyway, I guess I can get used to 4 months between episodes (what choice do I have?), but I will be sad if it's always 5-6 months.

but you loose in growth, every new project you get that reaches a new demographic or market brings in more people! DIk brings a certain crowd Al brought another and his next project will bring another crowd so the faster you finish your projects for as long as you do no compromise in quality means wealth increase! just because he makes green bucks does not mean once he reaches 25k patrons he will not be making the orange bucks!

ofc he will need to find a new angle, perhaps a buddy cop comedy or a Beta life to reach his new market, so the longer he takes to finish or update the staler his brand becomes and fewer and fewer clients he will find going forward! there`s a reason why companies like Netflix Tesla Uber or Google spent at least 1 decade not giving profit and eating up investment money! its called growth the moment you choose to act on the profit your growth potential pays... but the moment you turn 1 billion users into 100 million 10$ payers the 250 to 500 millions you lost you recover in 1 year and then some moving forward! if you fallow the other path after 10 years you´re making 10-50 millions a year and every new customer as an higher price to make market penetration!

the dangers of such strategies is if your moats to entry into the market you just created is not enough to keep competition at bay for long enough for you to make the turn around such as whats happening with Youtube, every time they try to a turnaround a new competitor appears and a few clients abdicate the service and get Disney+ or Netflix! but i attribute it to their monetization system being run by great marketeers (the best that money can buy) and not really creative people like me!

as for me paying as a patreon is not for me i use steam by giving a friend the money and he buys it for me as a present, do not trust the interwebs with your wallet!

As a means of convincing Jill that a) there was no fire, and b) the MC was neither responsible for a fire or setting off the sprinklers.

Josy said she knew Lucas from one of her classes and they seemed at least friendly enough that he gave her a wave in the cafeteria, so if the MC were to loop Josy in on what's going on with Jill with regards to the Tybalt situation, she could maybe leverage this acquaintance with Lucas to help the MC by talking to Jill.

This seems to be the prevailing theory.

I wonder when they say, "branching lewd scene" if they mean that the lewd scene itself with be branching depending on the path you're on, or if it's just one large lewd scenes on a particular branch? :unsure:

Still, 5000+ renders is just insane. If every update from now is anywhere near that size then I don't see how there will be 15+ episodes.
Oh, there can still be 15+ episodes because it all depends on exactly what these renders and animations cover in terms of the overall story and the in-game timeframe. This episode could easily be 20% story progression and 80% filler if DPC wanted it to be and make very little progress with all the plotpoints and story threads. So just because there's a high render and animation doesn't mean that there will be a lot of progress in the story, just look at Ep 5 and 6. Both episodes have barely moved the story very much and have included long sections of content that feel like filler; Prep party, yoga with Bella and Jill, pancake flipping, the mansion repair mini-game, and DnG.

Quinn/Riona/Sage here I come. That scene is going to be hype.

Jade was my second choice for wallpaper. Quinn next week.
I still have very serious doubts that that preview will lead to anything lewd/sexual, at least one that involves all 4. People felt like there was a real departure from Jill's established character in Ep 6 for giving in to Tybalt's empty threat, if Sage were to have a foursome with 2 of her HOT sistes and her FWB/the guy she's falling for, this would equally seem a real departure of Sage's character too.

Nothing we've seen up until this point would seem to indicate that Sage is this type of girl, not simply her having any bisexual tendencies, but being someone who is willing to share a guy that she's seeing/hooking up with. It would honestly feel like pandering to include a lewd scene with the 4 of them because there really doesn't seem to be anything about Sage that feels as though this is something she would do and would just feel like DPC is ruining their own creation by making out-of-character lewd scenes just to give people more fap material.

I'm curious what everyone thinks DPC's next game will be? He said it will be set in modern times. A college sex game will be difficult to top. Let's hope he doesn't go back to house fires and fatal illnesses.

I don't know, I'm not convinced

AL was his first work, it's normal that he had limited numbers, but the leap he made with BADIk will not be able to repeat with the next game, the user base is that one. in the next game he will surely lose the unhappy for BADIK (which however there will be)

it could also increase its audience a lot, but only if it completely changed genre and left the niche of porn games, but it is not realistic

the only reason that DPC, but every developer in general, has to end his game is if he gets bored and has already in mind the next work, only this motivation can push him to accelerate (and that's what it seemed DPC wanted to do until a few months ago)

The planned animations are fully rendered (222/222), but this count may increase before release if I want to add something for any scene.

Animations aren't the focus anymore, which frees up time for the rest of the development.

This week I mainly worked on the phone and special content for the episode.

Special content includes collectibles, galleries, and more, and I've been focusing on the Rooster and chat apps this week when it comes to phone content.

I completed the Special render series for Jill, an adventure theme this time around, and the series tells a short story if viewed from start to finish. I have a similar concept for Riona's special render series this episode.

I've implemented the Special renders and the 2D art in the galleries, and the lewd scene galleries are in place as well. I need to add some of the Special renders to the free roams that are left to create.

I've been ordering 2D art for a long time, and it feels great to be able to add it to the game as extra content. I went back and forth in the design of how to display the 2D art in the gallery, but I believe that I've found the best way for it with the current design. I'll be pleased to hear feedback on the 2D art implementation after the episode is released, as it's a bit different from other special renders.

I can't spoil what will be in the episode regarding mini-games, but I have worked on several of them this week, and I have a few left in need of content.

I need to work more on sound effects and music soon. Several scenes haven't gotten audio yet, so adding this is a near-future goal.

Other than that, I will be powering on with writing and art production.

Reporting on computer maintenance isn't that fun, as it doesn't bring direct value to the game development, but I had to do something this week as my main PC was running out of disc space. I have now upgraded my SSD discs, made proper backups, and did some overall PC cleaning and maintenance.

With this upgrade, I'd be shocked if I had to worry about disc space for the remainder of the creation of Being a DIK.

I'll be posting a preview of Jill's special render series this weekend, and there will also be a poll for 2D art.

This week I focused on working meticulously on lewd scenes.

I posed static renders, checked and wrote the dialogue, and added animations if I felt that I wanted more of a scene.

I chose to do this now, so I could pose any additional animations early so I don't end up with them at the end of the development. The updated animation count is 240, of which 236 are fully rendered, and I have two lewd scenes to do this process for.

Many static renders were posed overall. There's a big lewd scene in particular that I spent 2.5 days working on. This branching lewd scene is my biggest one yet. It has 69 animations and more than 200 static renders.

I spent some time scouting for sound effects and music as well. I purchased and implemented a few new songs, but I'm not done with this yet.

Next week I will most likely complete the 2 remaining lewd scenes and then continue to work on the story.

I have produced 2891 static renders. If I look at the script and estimate the remaining number of renders to pose, the ballpark number is somewhere between 1000-2500 static renders. I know that is a big range, and those are huge numbers, but that's the best I can estimate right now, as everything is planned but not written yet.

Oooh, big news today!

DPC completed 14 animations this week (with 4 more in production), which puts him well over his high end estimate of 230. He also completed roughly 217 static renders over each of the last two weeks. This brings his overall average to 14.8 animations and 181 static renders per week, though static rate is highly variable.

We also got the long awaited estimation of the total static render count for the game: between 3891 and 5391. That's somewhat wider than my WAG of 4200-4800, but with a reasonably similar median. Let's go to the charts!

Alright, now we can do some actual estimating, though there are still a lot of variables. DPC's static render rate has varied between 100 and 300 static renders per week, though 150 is probably a better estimate for the floor at this point. That means it could take anywhere from 4 to 17 weeks to complete the renders. Now DPC's render rate is highest when he isn't busy working on animations or writing, so it should accelerate as other tasks are finished. Then again, DPC is already 10 animations over his theoretical quota, so I'm not sure he can keep himself completely dedicated purely on statics for that long.

Trying to tie all that into our estimate, I think the best case scenario would be ~3900 statics finished around March 19. The worst realistic case is probably ~5400 statics completed around May 14. If we add around 2 weeks for playtesting, that gives us a release window between April 2 and May 28. So our previous estimate of "April" is now "April or May." I don't think it will get as bad as the worst case, but I also think DPC will wind up diverting some of his posing time to make still more animations.

As of right now, my guess would be late April.

Meanwhile the Jade wallpaper is interesting; warm pink is an unusual color for her. She mostly makes it work, though her shoulder does look very rough.

if MC is in the Jill route, I would say that he has already convinced Jill, or that she already believes him.

if not, is it so important to convince her?

who set off the fire alarm I think is pretty irrelevant (MC and Derek are there together and MC doesn't distance himself from what Jar Jar commits), but in the case, exonerating MC means blaming Derek, and as much as already in the dialogue at the picnic MC can give him the responsibility for what happened, I don't think it canon to blame Derek officially

I really hope DPC doesn't keep the paintings closed down to following certain paths :cautious: I mean I dont feel like he closed certain ones for good and I kind of want them all.
He'll have to change the way they're unlocked, which isn't that difficult I guess.

Like Josy first part requires being in her relationship at end of episode 4. But Pinkcakes can easily add an alternate path to complete the painting in future updates once her solo path is available.
