Seeking Best unpopular games recommendations

I've been through a few popular games and didn't enjoy it as much as most people, so I would like to try some not so popular ones. My preference would be games that are strong in writing and have a lot of contents, but any recommendations are welcome.

Well, nothing is so broadly unpopular as text based games.

You could even look into old-school AIF (adult interactive fiction).
