Seeking Games with good writing

I am looking for games that have good characters and good writing, like Being A DIK. Understandably so most games are generally focused on very average stories to make space for better scenes and visuals, therefore most of these games fall flat for me. The genre doesnt really matter since as long as the writing is interesting, I'll probably play through it. However, if I were to make specifications, sandbox games are generally my favorites, as well as management games but there arent many of those out there let alone ones with good stories, so I am open to any suggestions.

Pale Carnations is probably the best written porn game to date. If you enjoy humor Caribdis's Once in a Lifetime and Eternum are very good. Harem Hotel might not have the best writing but the story is long and engaging and unfolds over several events for each LI. I mean, if you search by weighted rating all of those games offer something special beyond just porn and mostly have decent writing and story.

Thanks, I've been playing these games for too long that I've pretty much turned myself into a indie game reviewer at this point, I've been cherry picking games from the weighted rating list, and generally have been avoiding games with very early versions, though I have played Pale carnations and once in a lifetime, they were both great, only reason I avoided eternum was because it is a very early version, but I take it it is from the same developer? If it is this much praise worthy I might give it a try!

I'm going to say the Island (it's an underrated gem nobody ever mentions), although I don't think Being a Dick has good writing. (Being a Dick has sequential, consequence-driven action, but it's not inventive)

It's not that being a Dik has a good story or innovative characters, in its core its just a college frat boy meets a bunch of beautiful girls story, pretty bland. However, in my opinion, where it shines are the characters. They arent inventive or unique but their characters arent flat, not a literary genius so dunno how to explain this in actual terms but they feel like people you could meet out there, which is fresh compared to the usual harem setup with:

one motherly character,
one lovable cute character,
one nymphomaniac seductress,
one disagreeable rude character,
one clueless stupid character, and so on.

Not that that is bad, they are obviously trying to appeal to a wide variety of fetishes to broaden their audience, but it does feel good to break that trope sometimes.

I must agree that Pale Carnations is easily the best written AVN I have ever played, actually its a damn well written game without any qualifiers. I would also throw in there Deviant Anomalies. There are also certain plots in Summertime Saga that are really strong. The tattoo shop arc comes to mind. For some strong dialogue writing with some interesting varied aesthetics I would check out anything by L8eral (especially Shag the Hag). I tend to think of him as the Tarantino of AVN's

I'm surprised Our Red String hasn't been mentioned. It's not a game with a grand or thought provoking narrative but all the characters, their lives, and how they all interconnect with each other is very well written. You really get to attach to the characters for better or for worse whereas most games the characters are so bland and basically are blank slates. I would also recommend Saya no Uta (be warned this is a fucked up horror game) and Kara no Shoujo (be warned this is a very good detective game but the endings are very bleak)

Seeds of Chaos is by far the best written erotic game I have seen. it is not even close. Characters are competent and compelling. The dialogue alone is worth checking it out and the story itself is full of thoughtful decisions. I especially ADORE the Shaya scenes and the banter between the characters throughout the fey subplot is also amazing.

While I think it is one of the best implemented instances of NTR, the game itself has some NTR scenes many would be hesitant to approach (and you can skip that and get many great scenes, just be careful not to disable it from start, many things the author considers NTR are not actually NTR, choose the path within the game itself).

other ones I recommend are "Our red string", "Secretary" (I came around to it, one character in particular in the "Secretary" is VERY well-written, others are ranged from serviceable to good).

of note, the reason that the disable at the start is so far reaching is because they got death threats about it so put in an option at the start that was overly broad for the very understandable reason of not wanting that to happen again
