The most probable outcome is that the content was supposed to release but he found an excuse to prolong the release...Well, if there is ever a valid reason to delay, it is to make more content for Alice.

That's a valid theory, and even if it's really the most probable explanation (what IS the probability for it and how do you calculate it?), it can still be wrong.

Don't think so, I think the only variation when it comes to story branches - apart from the 3 obvious ones - is who gives Alice the outfit. That will change a few renders later, but that should be all.

I think by the time your on this quest your already locked on the Friends/Fake friend path so you should be good on getting all the Eric content.
Any news when the fake friendship path will lead to Eric getting booted? Or we're a long way from that yet?

It was said however that he would return in any case, so it would be wise to have a concept for what happens after and how the three paths overlap then. Otherwise - if Eric leves now on that path - his friends might have to wait all too long for his return.
