Was there any difference between the two friendship paths in the previous game?

What they have in common: Both didn't get finished.
The (planned) difference: In fake friendship, Max would pretend to be Erics friend and work behnd his back to get him kicked out. In the other path Eric would betray him and try to get rid of him, with the result of getting kicked out himself in the end.
Some story scenes would differ, also some lewd scenes, but I didn't really look into it, wasn't interested in either path.
In the original game, the fake friend path was the easier way to play the game than the war path, since Eric on would constantly work against Max if Max told him to screw himself, lowering Max' influence on the girls all the time. Since the War path in BBAS was not as heavy on grinding as in the original, this path basically lost its reason to exist.
So let me get this straight...
A "Remake" story but none of the parts ever got completed. So far, as far as the path I went, you can only have actual vaginal sex with "neighbor"/aunt/Kira which is frankly ridiculous for the amount so stuff you have to do with the others compared to her and yet the rewards for your actual housemates are all just ridiculously dull.
There has to be an end for all...There has to be...

I think you are getting confused with the different devs, or you are using Remake instead of Rebuild. The BB-Remake is being written by PornGodNoob and this one is being written by Aleksey90. Aleksey decided he need to start over, for reasons, and he decided to change some of the early dialogs as well.
PornGodNoob decided he would put out the original game in Renpy then he left it for a time and came back to it. He wanted to extend the Eric story line and didnt do much with Max after you get rid of Eric that path just ended.

Big Brother Ren'Py Remake Story is a different game.
BIBOAS was always something on its own, even if the first versions were quite close to the original. And yes, Kira is the easy one.
It's not focused on quick progress (for that play Glamour), its focus lies on a more natural progress, more diversity in repeatables and consistent story telling.
If you think that's bad, then you should not play it rather than getting disappointed. There are alternatives to this game which might have what you are looking for.

I got it mixed up but same thing. Having jumped from the old game to this, there's actually nothing. I get it that the progression is supposed to be slow which I wholeheartedly agree but again, the grind for the rewards isn't worth jack.
You help everyone but get nothing in return. It's kinda frustrating

I like Alice's scenes very much. And the event where she tries some SM on Max by punishing him ends in an epic fail (if you get her drunk).
And she's actually rewarding Max at the end of the game. Progressing in the story causes her to return the favor if he has been "nice" to her at the couch and the player can chose if that will happen later in the bathtub or the next day in the shower.
note: I mean the legacy version 0.9, not the current rebuild.

Eh? I thought the only reward you get if you follow the Opportunities is that she'll allow you to cum in her mouth during the "punishment" phase? Or do I have to sneak at her in the toilet again to be able to see extra stuff? Cuz now as the way it is in my current game, I kicked Eric out, got the MOTH mission unlocked and the every other mission is hanging with the status of "You have reached the end of this opportunity for this current version".

It's not an opportunity, not part of the storyline. It's a change in an existing repeatbale event. Go to the couch in the evening, make her cum while she's sober and read her answer.

Yea but still, Max can only masturbate with her thighs or ass and that's it. Even Lily's path gets locked also as you can't have actual sex with her and the repeatable events are all giving her and Olivia sunscreens or kissing her when she's reading books. Yes the progress grind can be slow and I don't really remember how much skillpoint tick it goes up per each successful interaction. However for the cigarette ones, there's no skillpoint gained as much as I know of unless you link it to other Opportunities.
