In my opinion the reason for this is that, apart from a few games, most are simply clones made by people who want to make a quick buck by trying to build on the popularity of the original without doing much for it themself.

You are waaaayyy wrong. Do yourself a giant favor and play the original.
It was the most popular game for a very good reason. And no, it got way past that point of installing cameras.
In fact, none of the clones that I'm aware of really caught up with the original. (I heard one got pretty far, but turned full on NTR) That was never what BB was about.
The Original by DS is still a pretty decent game, and even though the game is technically abandoned, it could have had a completed tag, just as easy. There were no loose ends, and the last update was pretty satisfying. No cliffhangers.
Just be aware that it is a sandbox, and there is some grind (But in my opinion it was not too bad). There is no clone that comes close, that is why they are all abandoned.

So, does the MC put cameras around the house or not?
The truth is, I've never really wondered why the original was abandoned. It's not something that bothers me too much.
Well, it's even worse. If I had little intention of playing it before, now any option has completely disappeared.

Are you sure? I haven't played it yet, but this one says in the OP that it's already a complete port of the original one + a little bit of new content.

My favorite way to deal with antagonists who can fuck LIs is to use a toggle that disables the possibility of this happening so that no matter what the MC does, he's the only one who has sex and romances the LIs.

I don't believe this is true, it's been quite a long time though. If I remember correctly, the original game development stopped shortly after MC and Lisa were caught outside on the balcony?. The game was continued from there by a fan made version that continued the story from there for a short bit, which I don't even think had an ending, just a few animations.
I like some of the new twists you're doing, it has potential.
If you are 'more comfortable' with Unity, please fix/unbork the screen resolutions. I'm guessing you don't use an ultrawide monitor? After running once, it now forces un-unplayable windowed resolution where after the spash screen it resizes and the menu controls are off screen. I've tried editing the registry for the window sizes, and that does fix the spash screen size, but the loaded game reverts back so menu controls are off-screen resolution and is unplayable.
