Perfectly playable, but yes it's a typical rpgm combat of the particularly annoying 'random encounter' variety.
I would indeed prefer it if the mobs were just walking on the map, and it would then be up to me to engage or not.

cool game but holy if it wasn't tedious as fuck with fights i was using cheats to speed game 3x and yet i still got bored out of my mind from sheer amount of random encounters i had to went through
Getting in combatt every 3 square is too annoying

Found a problem with weapon upgrading, it seems you forgot to add the ability to unequip weapons so i can't take 'em off unless i have something to replace the weapon i want to uneqip, this makes upgrading that weapon impossible since your upgrading system doesn't seem to detect what the player characters have equipped on them.
