yup and he doesn't say "my goal is to release before i go," he says "my goal is to have everything wrapped up before i go" which is intentionally vague. in late november he'll post in platinum discord, "okay now that everything is wrapped up i just need to proofread and finish the last 7-8 scenes and then we'll be good!"

What a tragedy, I had so much hope with this game, right now there is only ONE western NTS game where development is going smoothly and we all know which one it is.

Vulgar Reverie is the real deal. Perhaps I should have described in a different manner than "going smoothly" what I mean is that a game like Reverie is the full package, great art, teasing, pacing, likeable wife and MC, and so on. It is the highest western NTS standard we have right now. *And of course, so far dev has been consistent in his updates.

Well phone style games are nice and all but they are also limited in the range of possibilities they can offer, after a while they do get quite repetitive. As for AI based games, I don't have any hateboner against AI, it's just that in my experience with AI based games, the dev didn't bother putting much attention into the narrative structure, I believe this happens because with hand drawn art, dev must carefully plan what each CG will depict which makes him consider how the plot will go with more attention. With AI based art you can just make stuff up as you go along, there is not much price to pay for it. Blurring the walls was the great promise, an AI based game that seemed to have a good and well planned plot, which is why I am sad to see what has happened to the project.

I'm sad, too, but I'm also an extremely patient person and there's no shortage of games I'm interested in playing, so I haven't felt the frustration of others. I'm more sad that the delay in development has brought the negative perception to the project and all the hate that the dev has gotten as a result. I still look forward to the update.
And here we can see different tastes at work! I consider "Vulgar Reverie" average for several reasons and is one of the few NTS games where my finger is on the "Strg" key most of the time. Just seeing the droopy,"I am so getting NTR´ed hard" face of the MC makes me want to click the red x. I have nearly a dozen NTS games I would put well before "VR" when it comes to story, likeable characters, etc.
Once upon a time "Blurring the walls" seemed to go into the right direction very well, then the NTR dicks made their move trying to force NTR into the game, also Torimiata made some rather questionable decisions and now this game is dead in the water.
I see it similar.

"Hey guys, v0.5.2 just dropped and I'd like to preface this with a heartfelt thank you for the interest thus far. It's most likely going to be a hefty amount of time (which I can't pinpoint precisely) untill the next update for the following reasons:

- [explain why you're doing what you're doing now]
- [reinforce that you are not a full time developer here]
That said, the game is not abandoned, and I will not be going into NTR. Feel free to unsub if you expect an update in the following months, and to those who don't, thank you for your trust and see you in the future.
Then spend the next few months sprinkling in some alternative art on "what if" scenarios while you do wathever you're doing behind the scenes, keep teasing some events on the future update, and you're golden. Clusterfuck avoided. It's a god damm miracle how some people manage to entomb themselves in immense pits of shit when you can just be honest.

this is exactly right and why i get so mad when people blame the community for toxicity. taking peoples money and making it sound like the update was right around the corner was so scummy. even if the update does come out and is good, i'm not giving this dev another dime. it was just so disrespectful

I meant, like, something tangible from the developer that would suggest a shift towards actual NTR. Saying that NTR is going to take over an NTS game just because there are a bunch of people in the threads/comments saying they want it to happen is a bit of a stretch. Pretty much every NTS game (e.g. Netorase Phone, much more so than BtW) has a chorus of NTR fans invading and begging the dev to have their way. I fight against them all the time. While some devs have definitely caved, I'd like to see some actual indication that Tori is shifting away from NTS and towards NTR before making assumptions.
To act like the toxicity solely comes from the dev's poor communication and mistakes and not including the part the "fanbase" plays is in that is absurd. Scroll through the last 40 pages, read how bad some of the commenters get, and tell me that isn't contributing to the toxicity present in the community. You could not do so in good faith, and I am confident in that. I don't take the blame off Tori in any way as I think there's plenty of mistakes that have been made. Despite that, I feel bad for devs that have to suffer through the deluge of negativity; to act like commenters are entirely justified a result, no matter how horrible they are, is wrong.
