It is unfortunate that. The fact that there are still basic options not implemented since the first versions is a clear reflection of poor management. The last time I tried the game was about three years ago and, going back now, I keep coming across the annoying word “placeholder” and "not implemented" in many of the scenes. One of the biggest problems with the game is not the game itself, but its developer, Dr. Bones, who seems bent on constantly self-sabotaging himself with bad decisions.
Instead of focusing on finishing what he has already created “The Manor”, he decides to start the development of another project “Survivor Guilt”. The most logical thing to do with this game would have been to divide the game into segments, work in parts, finish a complete block and then move on to the next one. But no. Bones is dedicated to adding new scenes while also working on the old ones, rather than choosing a single approach. Doing both at the same time, and at such a slow pace of development on top of that, is a recipe for disaster. What he redoes today is already obsolete tomorrow because of how long it takes to release updates, so he would keep doing the same thing until he or his community gets tired of it.
And to top it all off, it seems to only rush to release content when the game gets the “Abandoned” tag, as if it's just a matter of temporarily removing that stain and then returning to its erratic pace. Because there's no other way to explain so long without real progress. Not to mention the mini update v0.20.0a that was divided into two parts and, surprise, was left incomplete and then v0.30 arrived loaded with bugs...
About the visuals, the old art really isn't bad, and instead of spending time redoing entire scenes, if you wanted your game to have more quality you could have opted for a resolution increase. In fact, the community already did it with artificial intelligence in version 0.20 and the result was pretty decent. I'm not saying it's wrong to want to improve on the above, but doing so in a project that lacks a sufficient team of developers is, honestly, a clumsy decision.
If Dr. Bones was able to create this game, he can also create another one just as good or better. “Survivor Guilt” looks very promising. People are not going to stop supporting him if he simply finishes what he started. But it gives the impression that he is afraid of closing the project, as if the day he finishes it, the support will also end.
I clarify that this criticism does not seek to attack anyone, I simply wanted to express what I think many of us feel. It is a shame to see how the +18 game developers community in this side of the world has been taking a course in which the important thing is no longer to offer a good product.
