Make sure you've maxed out their stats. Depravation, trust, arousal and guilt need to be at 70.
If the state event still doesn't trigger then you simply haven't done all the scenes. Check the guide and find what scene(s) you've overlooked.

First time playing and it looks like I completely sequence sequence broke the game. Doyle won't fuck off anymore and I can't talk to him about the merchant nor can I move the fucking mirror. so is there a particular day/Depravation amount/time of day that this works or am I right to assume I just sequence broke the game so hard I have to redo the whole game? Yes, I did look at the guide and walkthrough and they both don't offer a reason why I can't get Doyle's goddamn help, the knife or ring, nor get him out of David's body once he has a more complete ghost form that isn't just a voice coming from bones and I talk to him.
To clarify every character I have available: Martha, Lucille, Vera and David are at 70 on their stats. I got them to that level before talking to the merchant and Doyle after going to Martha's room at night alone and with doyle, but I may have a save that won't have me completely replay the beginning. No I don't want someone else's save data.

Go to sleep in the evening... doyle will automatically leave your body, next morning go to the basement and talk to his ghost form (if you already unblock it). If you already talked to the merchant then the

Then the what? Doyle appears in full form as a specter in the basement to interact with so after you go talk to his bones and he doesn't respond then shows up as a full form specter but hasn't talked to David about moving the mirror nor can I eject him from David without sleeping because I don't have Doyle's Ring which is in the attic with the mirror blocked ladder.
Have you talked to the merchant? If not, check on the mom at night, then in the morning talk to the merchant to get the mention of the sleeping pills, go to doyle and then that should trigger the event where you move the mirror to gain access to the knife and the ring.

Stated: Cannot get Doyle to do jack shit atm, I talked to the merchant like 20+ days later because I didn't know about her, after he mentions Doyle might know of something valuable I finally go talk to Doyle the same amount of time after the mom night interaction where David mentions the need for something to make her sleep stronger. Well I interact with Doyle's bones, where he usually is when under 20 deprivation but at like 70 deprivation, so he doesn't respond then materializes from the right side wall area in full form specter mode, since this happened he won't leave David's body from interacting with Doyle's bones. Nor can I get his interaction with the mirror to move the bloody thing.

PLAY the game from the beginning, READ the Change Logs, make sure to finish everything from a given version before trying to do scenes from the next version, start with the walkthrough, when you have finished everything in the walkthrough progress to the guide. There have to be things missed / triggers that are messed up. Backup your saves before starting over if you wish but it sounds like something may be corrupted in your saves.

First of all... take a deep breath...
Now, do this, step by step:
1-As I said before, if Doyle is with you, go to sleep in the evening, he will leave.
2-Next morning (or afternoon or really any time) go the the basement, if you don't see doyle's ghost on the right, talk to the bones, it will play the first aparition scene, and he will enter your body again. (This triggers the the full ghost mode).
3- Go to sleep again in the evening, he will leave you, again...
4- Next morning, go to the basement, again, and this time, Doyle should be already in ghost form on the right of the map.
5- Talk to him, if you already talked to the merchant and the MC said something about needing Doyle's help, once he possess you, the dialogue about the attic and the item to sell (and the ring) should trigger.
If this does not work for you for some reason... just give me your savefile and I will fix it for you.
Now, breath again, think of happy thoughts, we are here for you, you are loved and deserve happiness.
I'm not overly angry nor am I upset at you the dev. I just got it to work. This should be added to all guides: Interact with Doyle's bones to activate 1st part of apparition scene, rest until next day, speak to Doyle again after going to the front gate and talking to the merchant and he should be in apparition mode and now you can ask him about helping.

When it happened to me I didn't know what to do, so I just wandered for like 10 minutes messing with stuff until I solved it
However, nice job on figuring it out and writing it. It would be helpful for new players
