This thread was helpful, but now I've got to leave about 20 pointless comments just to reach the required number.

It is unlikely that anyone would consider comments helpful from a user with fewer than 20 comments. In fact, encouraging comments are known as pointless comments.

You're a developer of a product that is found on here. If you can't write 20 helpful comments in the game thread for the people who are trying out your product - or offer insight on how you came to develop it, or the choices you made, or what inspired you, or helpful tips, etc.... - to build interest, that's pointless.

My product would've ended up here eventually, anyway, because this forum's a bit of a pirate. No one really cares about the inspiration behind it or how I came up with it, et cetera. The only thing everyone's worried about with the game's theme are the current and future tags. Those tags are posted in the thread for the game, so I don't really see the point of repeating myself in every comment.
Anyway, I don't have a problem with new rules. I just think that new users might post pointless comments just to get the required number.

You might want to go through some of the game threads on here, many players get VERY invested in the games, from story to characters to the direction it will go in to quirky little things that pop up etc. In grandma's house there is a fun continuous discussion on what tools can and can't be used on a car engine for example... It's up to you really but you can have a fruitful and rewarding experience with your player base / fans.

I completely agree with this statement. However, I would like to add one important detail. No more than 10% of all games in development receive live discussions on their topics, and these games have been developed for at least 3-4 years. The remaining 90% of games do not have great interest and are of little interest to anyone. Therefore, almost all of these games end up in the "abandoned" category sooner or later. I want to emphasize that the quality of the game or the developer does not matter. Everything depends on the tags and future tags of the game.

None of that can be attributed to a dev giving recommendations, taking part in general discussions or giving helpful advise or enjoying banter / arguing in off-topic (although off-topic doesn't count towards post count). This forum and community is more than just a game thread.

Of course no one is forcing you to do any of this and I apologize if the next part is incorrect but you seem rather fixated on tags and seem to be approaching this with a rather negative outlook.

Anyways, good luck with your post count and your game.

We have made changes and it’s increased to 20 posts needed for a DM.

Okay, this is confusing to me. Part is the terminology used.
'Conversations' are what PM threads are called here. Within the forums there are threads and messages/posts.

This surely can't mean someone has to create 20 threads to be eligible right, so it must mean post in a thread 20 times? And 'Reply to Conversation' means at least 10 times replying to or multi-quoting a post (making use of the button)? (So at least you'd need 20+10 = 30 posts?)

I just send a PM to a relatively new dev (KandyClub), they received it, could read it, but couldn't reply to it ("You may not start a conversation with the following recipients:"), so they ended up using the game thread for that. Perhaps an exception can be made for users with a certain status like developers? (Some even hardly post.)

edit: hmm, shit, wait... ;)
Okay, I believe I get it now :p, it's about the forums post count (3 - 10 - 20) that determines to which extent you can interact with the PM system..

Cheers!

Wow, thank you. I see it was due to F95ZONE's internal regulations.

I'm truly grateful you went to such lengths to help me.

Yes it is.
For those who wonder why such high numbers, it's because not so long ago the staff discovered that some members where abusing of the PM system, sharing realistic underage (accordingly to the rule 1.7, so prepubescent/borderline pubescent) AI content through it. Like it's a security issue, both due to the kind of members it could attract and to the attention it could draw from the authorities, they had to, alas, take this measure.

This being said, the forum have more than 257K threads, around 10% of them being games. So, reaching the posts count while not flooding, nor posting off topic, isn't too difficult. There's surely something you've to say about three games. Preferably something nice, with a personal bonus point if it's "I like your game" in a thread owned by the developer; it's always pleasant to hear people say that they like what you do, even if it come from a piracy forum.
The count of 10 is a bit more difficult to reach, but not impossible if you aren't in hurry. Interact with other members sharing your interest for a game (while staying on topic of course), give your opinion about an update, or discover the other parts of the forum, like the mod section by example; modders to like to hear people say good things about their work and help them improve it.
