When I try to start the game it always crashes, am i clicking the wrong thing or doing something wrong? Help?

One of the main reasons why Castle's 2D side-scrollers are so hard for me to keep doing is because of the amount of pictures each character needs.
Although the sense of presence is very good, the quality of H animation cannot be too high.
And drawing pictures that aren't H-animation pictures also makes me irritated.
I had to spend the same amount of time on just one character walk as I did on one H-animation, so it was too much work.
That's why I wanted to use a 2D planar representation, so that the amount of graphics required other than H animation would be greatly reduced, and I could make the H animation of each character more detailed.

Can't believe poring is so based. "I'm swapping to an entirely different style of gameplay because it lets me draw more porn animations instead of walking graphics"

overall on okay-ish game, some mechanics and some levels need some rework, like for example the hold to jump mechanic is kinda stupid, the stage 2 boss is unnecessarily hard while the stage 3 boss is easy... I gave up half-way thru stage 4 but thankfully someone posted a save here and it seems to have unlocked the gallery, so at least there's that...

If you think boss #2 is hard, then... Well, it just really shows you have not faced off against boss #4. Hell, I would even say boss #2 is easy by comparison!

Though your comment makes me curious. You wrote it like a review, so why not post it as one as well? :unsure:

What they meant tho was "If you wanted to post a review of the game why did you post it in discussions instead of reviews?".
There should be an option at the top where you can switch between Discussions and Reviews. (y)

I don't mean hard as in Dark Souls hard, but more like the controls/mechanics are so clunky it makes this boss difficult... personally I would change "hold to jump" into a double jump mechanic (like jump once then press space to jump again mid air) and it would probably solve most issues...
also this is more like a note for myself so that in the future I will remember how I felt about this game

To be fair, I also found boss 2 harder than boss four (if by that they mean the torch dodge-athon) and later other related stuff. Though in all fairness only the extra cloaks for help let me first time it. By comparison, many of the janky jump and throwing sections in the final level took absolute ages. Especially with illogical and fucky save state mechanics, soft lock gaybabyjails and all around infuriating fuckery. I don't know if the inverted penance hall or the Apocrypha hellhole with 5% health instadeath (pseudo-)savelock was more conniption concocting. All I can say is that the healing+saving system is ill-thought-out, ass and not designed for the game this turned into.

I swear, the further the game got, the worse it became. By the endgame sudden infodump of more lore than the rest of the game combined that nobody asked for I was just ready to altF4. Why do Japanese game devs get the idea that their porn game is now supposed to be some impeccable epic, but only after they are all but through with the campaign?

As a general question: Was this game in for an especially hard dev cycle or did it change hands midway? Because all the signs from general confusion in direction or early mechanics just not translating to later parts from around the third level onward absolutely screams something like that.

Hard dev cycle is the most appropriate phrase I can think of. Poring had wanted to list it on steam, since, y'know... basically the best platform there is if you want to sell your game. Not being there is basically shooting yourself in the foot. Applied for listing, got denied.
Removed the stuff that got it denied in the first place, and reapplied. Got denied AGAIN due to something like "you can't resubmit a game that has already been denied" (despite that having definitely been done before by other people and just let slide).
I believe, not 100% on this but decently sure, that Poring just said "fuck it" after that and decided to pivot to making another game. Of course, had to finish this one off first, since it happened around stage 3. I think while stage 3 was in the process of being developed, but I don't know if I have my timeline right.

Also, if I'm wrong on something here and someone else knows, feel free to quote and correct my mistakes.

Some things have already bean said in the post above.
Yes there have been frustrations about the game being denied on steam but also the scope of the whole project.
I've looked through the update posts and they had this to say:
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
The stress of moving and toll it took on them to continue the project has deeply affected development.
Which also resulted in a few chapters being cut in favor if it actual being finished with an ending.
It's a shame in that regard but I'm positively certain that none here wants Poring to actually end up damaged in some way from this; aside from internet trolls.
Let's be content it didn't end up abandoned but rather finished with a proper ending (or even endings in this case).
Besides, I have confirmation from them that some of the things that were cut will be featured in their next projects!
As of now we got 2 of them in the works as I've mention in this post.

Also, if I'm wrong on something here and someone else knows, feel free to quote and correct my mistakes.
