Introducing... Claire's Ranch! (Special Blog)
Hello and welcome to a special, patron-only blog post!
Sadly this can't be public as we're discussing some rather lewd things.
Anyway, moving on! With the patron-only version of Claire's Quest (0.17) now out and going through beta testing, I thought this would be a nice time to have an extended discussion on the next couple of things coming for Claire's Quest!
For starters, Rathpike is currently out (city-only) and we've caught a few bugs thanks to players already. After the area is confirmed stable, we'll move onto expanding to the outer areas, which expand the Thieves and Mercenaries questlines, as well as bring in the Shieldmaiden/Viking questline.
But, with all the focus on Rathpike recently, I thought I'd bring up some content coming for Valos for a bit!
A new area has been added to the ranching town of Chemont Town, the Bullpen, which is part of a cattle farm there. This is being added in 0.17.2, with two complete breeding scenes!
This new area is totally inaccessible to Claire, however, unless she gets Breeding Papers II by completing earlier breeding work from the stables, which is a hard requirement for the Bullpen staff to even consider Claire. This is a new item added to the stable questline, but don't worry, if you didn't get it the first time, just work in the stables again and it will detect you don't have the item and reward it to you.
After getting Breeding Papers II, Claire becomes eligible to work in the Bullpen, and upon completion of all Bullpen scenes, will receive Breeding Papers III!
Breeding Papers III is part of a Storyteller questline - which is a questline that has been requested by a patron at the highest pledge, and approved by us as being suitable for the game! We've been working on this for some time, and now it's in a complete enough state for us to tell you more!
This isn't the first instance of a Storyteller questline, by the way, as the Sisters and the Rangers are both also Storyteller questlines!
So, moving on, after getting Breeding Papers III, Claire becomes eligible to
BUY a ranch of her own in Chemont, having proven her skill at the craft.
This ranch, however, is empty when Claire first acquires it. And she can't possibly do all the work herself. No, she'll need live-in help, and she'll need to acquire some livestock...
The first of these potential workers is Isobelle, a well-born young lady who escaped from the aristocratic clutches of her family after realizing they intended to send her off to a loveless marriage - and worse, pay for her dowry by selling her beloved pet horse!
Grabbing the reins of her trusty steed, Thunder, Isobelle gallops off into freedom - but finds herself stuck in Chemont, with no wage-earning ability, and a rather large, expensive stallion to feed and house.
In the midst of her dilemma, in comes Claire, who can offer Isobelle - and Thunder - a place at her newly-acquired ranch!
The second girl Claire can hire is Evie, a tough farmgirl, and an experienced hand at breeding, who works at the Bullpen when Claire first meets her. Evie has a soft spot in her heart for a gentle giant, a great bull named Brutus, that is neglected in the Bullpen for fear of his immense stature.
Evie will agree to join Claire if she will give Brutus a place in her heart - and her ranch.
Recruiting a girl, provided Claire has enough money to pay to room them, sends them permanently to Claire's Ranch, starting a kind of minigame within Claire's Quest revolving around trainer and sim management-type gameplay.
The different girls that Claire can recruit all have different personalities, backstories, and of course - attitudes towards the whole breeding thing Claire seems to be so fond of
Evie, for instance, having actually worked in the Bullpen, is rather comfortable with it, while Isobelle is initially very nervous and uncertain. It is up to Claire, as mistress of the ranch, to accommodate the girls under her, and unleash their full potential.
For those who don't fancy trainer gameplay, are too impatient, or just downright have too much money to spend - good news! There are always items that can greatly accelerate the process of training a top breeder.
Of course, Claire isn't doing all this out of the goodness of her depraved, depraved heart. Buying and running a ranch is an expensive thing ... fortunately, Claire can be well-rewarded for her efforts (and those of the breeders working for her!)
And yes, you read the bottom line of that item description correctly.
I wonder what indeed, Claire?
Anyway, as girls get trained, they become more and more comfortable with increasing levels of depravity, unlocking new scenes, new dialogue, and developments. And then finally...
... Claire will have the perfect breeder(s).
This is still a work-in-progress, of course, but I hope this gets you guys excited for the future content planned for Chemont!
