If I have a save for version 17.1 and the game is 28.2, will everything be in the gallery or not?
Depends. There's a guy in the gallery that updates your saves so the gallery itself should be complete, you'll just have lower stats on average as a number of stat increasing choices wouldn't have been in your old save's playthrough.

There's a (smallish) chance the save will refuse to load entirely, but as long as it does it will be able to be updated. There may also be some jank involved as going up that many versions with a save means there will be flags and triggers that haven't been set when the game expects they have, but that's gameplay. If you're just using it for the gallery unlocks it should work fine.

I can't even get the game to boot up for some reason. I have tried multiple versions from multiple distributors, I have tried to run it without WINE, with wine, and from the console with wine, I have rebooted and reinstalled multiple times, I have waited for a sum total of about 2 or three hours for it to load, and all I get no matter what I do is a black screen with white text saying "Now Loading..." and nothing ever loads.

Does anyone have any idea why this is?

Misc information:
OS: Linux Mint
GPU: integrated
The game boots up, does not crash, does not ever load.
I have waited upwards of an hour without interrupting the process just in case, still nada.

Did you install all required dependencies with winetricks and rpg maker?

I think so, but I can certainly check. Where do I find these dependencies?
The installation guide that came with the torrent is the generic IGG Games .txt file, and I don't see one here on this page.

I use Bottle. It's easy to use, and you don't need to do much beyond granting permissions to all system files with Flatseal. It works on both Debian and Fedora. Another option would be Lutris, but it has issues with DXVK 2.5.3. It doesn't start the game unless you upgrade to 2.4.1.

Use Lutris for managing your h-games on linux. Download the windows version, extract, add game to Lutris, set runner to Wine, set the location of the executable, and set the wine version to whatever (mine is Proton 8.0).

Also on Mint and working fine with above, though not on integrated graphics.

use this for MV/MZ
everything else try steam-proton,
if it still doesnt run, its likely WOLF or some estoric game engine, try your luck with searching this thread https://f95zone.to/threads/playing-on-linux-tutorials-tools-and-help.19523

You can just add it to Lutris, if you do not want to add it to steam as well. I use it with wine-ge-8-26-x64 (on the GoG version) and it runs fine.

Under the advice of several people in this comment section.
1. I have installed Lutris
2. Ensured that CQ is using Proton 8.0 (using the method from )
3. Ensured that CQ is using DXVK v 2.4.1

However, now Lutris simply does not launch it in the first place. no window opens, no process in the system monitor shows up, and the "play" button becomes perpetually stuck on "launching...". I don't recall if I even got to the loading screen from my original comment the first time i tried with Lutris (before steps 2 or 3).

Edit 1
I ran [lutris -d] and this is the console log:

EDIT:2
SOLVED!!!

Turns out the issue was i somehow managed to install an ancient version of Lutris. Some other guy on the Lutris forums had the same issue, so I suspect we both simply followed the same woefully out-of-date article. Thanks for all the help.
