Recently i've been getting into hrpgs and i've been having a blast, but there's this extensive library and let's be real, there's a lot who are low effort rpgmaker games, so i want to ask what are some "classic" hrpgs that everyone has played? i've heard about Rance, Vitamin quest, Melty's Quest, Makina Fallen and so on what others am i missing?

got an English release and was easy to find back when eroge RPGs were scarce outside of Japan, so it's probably the first one many people have played.

is well-known but the gameplay is rather basic and I recall it requiring copious amounts of grinding to get past game over rapes, so if that's not your kink then skip it like I did.

Branded Azael - Light gameplay with great art and scene variety.
Crimson keep - Combat is a little hard later on, but a must play if you like monster girls and harem.
Dungeon of lulu Farea - I actually liked this one for the gameplay, but the h content is good as well.

I can't recommed Shin-Sei-Den by Fullflap enough. I'd say it's old enough to be a classic by now and it has some pretty high acclaim (for good reason)
It's by no means a super complex game, it's has some solid mechanics where the way you fight in battles can affect your relationship with your party member/love interest. I don't want to spoil it, so i recommend you just go for it.
