They shouldn't. There's nothing inherent about the data in the save game files that should matter with a new Ren'Py version, but it is a beta test version. Caveat Emptor.

Congratulations are in order! Hope the rest of the work that comes with the completed game goes smoothly. Looking forward to buying on Steam if you can get it approved there. (Sadly Steam doesn't consider that characters that are now major had a childhood.) If not, what would be the price for the completed game on Itch? It will be well worth it anyways.
Thanks! We'll see—I think I've skirted the creeping arbitrary limits that Steam has been imposing lately, but I may have to address some dialogue and images regarding character flashbacks. Believe it or not, it's the attempted rape situations I'm most concerned about.
Sure, you can. I was just trying to be honest about the process, since it was a work in progress. Silly me. Next time, I'll put a pay-per-release price on it. You know, not what I would expect once it was all done, but enough to stop casual downloaders who only want stuff for free. The Steam version will have additional features/scenes not available in the public release.
